I actually agree with this. From all across the political spectrum, the amount of dross is amazing.
I think too much focus and judgement of MPs ability is based on their charisma and suitability to host a lighthearted TV panel show.
MPs and ministers in particular have also fallen for the lure of appearances on the rolling 24 hour news shows. (As long as it is deemed a good / positive spin opportunity)
Competing with each other for attention, spouting meaningless tripe and pathetic platitudes. The like of Mad Nad and Fabricant have never contributed anything, that should have appeared outside their local free rag, or the tail end of their regional news programme, after cat rescued from tree and man points at pothole item.
MPs should focus on constituency issues, unless they have a particular relevance or authority on matters of national interest.
Anything important to be said, say it in the HoC.
Ministers should be heard and judged when they have achieved or delivered something.
Those MPs of yore didn’t expose themselves to the constant glare of publicity, that the current crop have become addicted to.
Less is more. Substance over style.
