Did you ever try to claim unemployment benefit there?I've worked in Jersey mate, have family and friends living there and for me it was easy to find building work there. It's got nothing to do with France but is part of the UK! Has its own government.
Been going to Jersey since the 70s Joey and never heard anyone speak French there. Walk through St Helier and you would think you were in town or Glasgow. A lot of people there are of French descent but they all speak English. Most of the younger generation are kids of English and Scottish parents. Jersey is a tax haven for the British government and has never been a part of the EU. Anyway back on topic, I but Truss has a few shilling stashed there. So 50 percent are French then ......
Have you tried Canada?Did you ever try to claim unemployment benefit there?
There was no benefits for anyone who wasn't a Jersey resident Joey. You had to live and work there for a number of years to qualify for residency or dole.Did you ever try to claim unemployment benefit there?
I was telling an old schoolfriend I met in a nightclub he had been there as a sparky for a contract for a building company for 12 months they got the work done in 9 months ahead of schedule, they got good wages plus a big bonus for getting the job done ahead of time .... so they thought they would sign on the dole as summer was arriving -
They signed on & were told to report back at 9pm the next day - he thought it's just to fill more forms in - him and his mates were given bib & brae uniforms & a van came & took a load of his mates plus a supervisor included to paint school fences all day - he & his mates soon got on the plane to fly home - working for their dole money ......
That was in the mid 1970s, English my arsp in name only

I heard someone say cul-de-sac once.Been going to Jersey since the 70s Joey and never heard anyone speak French there.
So only 44% then...Jersey population by place of birth (2011)[1]
Of the category 'Other European country', the primary countries were France and Romania and for 'Elsewhere in the world', the primary countries were South Africa and India.
Place of birth Number Percent Jersey 48,654 50 British Islesa 30,223 31 Portugal 7,031 7 Poland 3,133 3 Ireland 1,880 2 Other European country 3,146 3 Elsewhere in the world 3,791 4
So fewer people moved there from France, than they did from South Africa.
