Her position is pretty much untenable now. Her complete manifesto for getting the job has not only been shredded, but it's gone into reverse and it seems tax is going up, not down

I just don't see how she survives

The only reason she could stay is if the tories give up and accept the next election going to be as bad as 97, if not worse. And no one credible will want to take over in those circumstances.

You are right, no serious candidate will want to front up for this election as no way they can win but I still think they will get rid of Truss though to try and keep the losses of seats to a minimum. They'll need someone who doesn't really want to be PM longterm but is seen as a steady hand to be seen to stabilise this up and down government.

All of those new Tory MP's north of Birmingham know that if Truss stays, they have virtually no chance of holding their seat. I don't see how she could possibly lead them into another election, but they are going to lose whatever happens. It's hard to find a good candidate to take over in this situation.

I really am of the opinion that Hunt has been put in there as the figure.
It's clear he is leading the show.
The toriest of Tories is calling the financial shots now. It's up there with putting Gove in.
Gone further that Sunak, on the money stuff so that must count him out now.
The grey suits won't put Mourdant in, in this situation.
Hunts the man in charge tlll the next election. What his official role is, and will be, I think will be irrelevant.
Truss I feel just shows up to PMQ's and tries not to mess up too much.

Isn't it amazing how partygate, phils funeral, fridges & brexit, illegal prorogue of parliament, molesters, paterson, xxx tractors, ahmad khan, undeclared wall paper, cummings... is all a world away in a time that seems much preferable* to what we are being dragged through currently...."great times..."

This will be spun in light of the catastrophic removal of dearest most noble boris, not only was he a hero he is practically a saint, he delivered us* such stable and brilliant leadership*

*all from the point of the sycophants

dorries - "bring back boris" (someone on politics live just, "nadine missed her calling as a japanese soldier in ww2" even the tory blowhard was laughing)

I disagree - this is increasingly looking like a problem that has a very clear, very reasonable solution in the British constitution.

If, with a notional majority of 70+, she still cannot have confidence that her legislative programme would get through the Commons then she has no business occupying that office.

Binning nearly her whole "fiscal event" publicly-announced policy and the chancellor off just to save herself is a pretty clear indicator that she doesn't possess the confidence of a majority of MPs in the Commons. Since its likely (given the Tory majority) that someone else could command the confidence of a majority of MPs in the Commons, an invitation from the Palace may well be along shortly.
A politician doing 'the right thing' - that would be a marvel for the ages.

My lack of constitutional knowledge not withstanding...
It's usually the PM that approaches the Monarch to dissolve the Govt.
But I believe that the Monarch can say...gist...you have no support thus can't govern, go away and get the support or send a replacement to me who can.

That would put the cat amongst both the Republican and Parliamentary pigeons and no mistake
