Walter Smith didn't have a squad with players like Lukaku and Stones in it.The target in the Smith days was just to keep our heads above water and we achieved that.Whatever about other managers this seasons miserable and pathetic league campaign has everything to do with Martinez.He failed the big test in Kiev last year.He failed the big test in the Etihad in the second leg of the league cup semi final and he has failed all of the big tests against Liverpool.Were just hoping now to come good in the FA cup to stop this season from being an embarrassing failure.

Martinez did his own legs in each of those big tests though - Alcaraz playing in Kiev, the way they were sent out to play at the Etihad, and his team selection (or rather bench selection) tonight. Even the last 4-0 at Anfield was down to him sending them out to play in a way that was catnip to them.

Yes, I know the players we had then were dire, but the utter helplessness of the way he had us playing. Wasn't there a game where he put out 8 defenders on the field? When we had fit midfielders and strikers? Something daft like that.

Martinez needs to do the honourable thing and walk. Keep what little dignity he has left and not let himself be sacked.
