Lineker Interview

I sort of got Sharps point though mate, he seen the trend changing with lads coming into the club who were happy to pick up a paycheck rather than spill their guts for the cause.

Its all subjective of course.

You cant knock Sharp, he was/is a legend. But Imo he's carefully preserved his legacy over the years by pointing the finger at players who came after the glory days. It's a typical arl arses trick to piss on the next generation. He knows we'll lap it up too because we all still struggle to come to terms with the end of that golden era and continually look for a scapegoat: Cottee, Keown, HK hitting the bottle big time, Heysel etc etc. The real blame was off the pitch we just didn't invest, either in players, top managers or infrastructure.

I preferred Sheedy.

Sheedy is probably one of my favourite players ever. But I still prefer Sharp.

strange how he doesn't give us any credit on the box yet lawro does, ask him about abuse from fans and i bet he says it goes with the paycheck, we gave him one of the worst slurs ever yet he often talks us up.
in fact you wouldnt even think he was an ex-player when he's on the box, creep all you like crisp face you aint goin in the hall of fame, place him outside......nearly in but not quite good enough.
sheedy lived off an early rep for years, never scored one of his "trademark" free kicks for umpteen seasons, used to walk around like he had slippers on, never tracked back even when it was him who lost posession, tried to engineer a move to celtic prior to the euro's in germany then got injured and had to stay with us, one of trhe 1st players to really get my back up, i climbed the railings in the street and told him so as well. artetta is getting that way imo.

Did anyone read the book Scally by Andy Nicholls where there was a picture of Mo Johnson swallowing a bag of coke? No wonder we were [Poor language removed] in the 90's. And someone sparked Mark Ward out in a hotel and didn't someone punch Mike Walker in the back of the head on a foreign training camp

[Poor language removed] culture in those days but just thought it gave a shocking insight into the way the team was run in them days

What was that, RBG?

My own view is that Sharp was much the better all round player - better than Gray or Lineker.

Something about Lineker always needled me - even when he played for us. He was perhaps the first player I noticed about whom I thought, 'you're not an evertonian, you're happy to be a high earner' Not surprised that he's gone into showbiz since hanging his boots up. I met someone at work once who knew Lineker personally and told me that he's not the nicest person you could meet.

Then again, who is? Chico excepted, obviously...

It was said he was a nonce, mate. Some supporters never know where to draw the line. I agree with Reidy too, he gives us better coverage than many an Evertonian <stares at Andy Gray>.

we used to sing "who's up little boys" on the back of some made up rumour that everyone knew was made up about him in a school uniform with a schoolboy, even made the sunday rags "everton fans start malicious hate campaign".
