Theirry Small hasnt played a game. We have blooded 3 or 4 young players in that time. A bit of an odd decision IMO, and would have played if he were here.

As for Dobbin, yes he gave the ball away, did very well before it though. I thought his usage was fine yesterday. Its risk/reward isnt it? He did well though, and the move down the left was fantastic.

Yes fully agree.

I just think it’s a huge ask for teenage players, especially centre forwards or centrebacks, to start games regularly, especially more than one of them together unless they are a phenomenon like Rooney.

Gordon is a prime example, flickered onto the scene under Ancelotti but then took a slump in form which had some writing him off as not good enough, he’s had to work back to get to the level he’s at now. Dobbin is perhaps not even as good as Gordon, Simms may be even further back.

I think they’re being brought through in an a decent manner at the moment. They’re getting on against tired legs when mistakes won’t be punished as much, and they’re increasing their game time. That’s all good in my book

Rondon gets a lot of criticism, and his limitations regarding his pace are well known, but if people can put aside their hatred of him they’ll see that in the game yesterday a number of times he made the ball stick and released Gordon or Gray on the counter. When Dobbin came on he had far more personal threat due to his pace but he lost the ball a few times so it was coming back to us. I wouldn’t want to have started that way because then if you need to pull off a young player and make a change, Rondon isn’t the sort of player you bring on at that point. When you look at the chances Gordon and Gray both had in that game, it’s hard to say the primary tactical plan didn’t work.

Yes, when you ignore all the times Rondon lost the ball, ignore his complete lack of pace, ignore his lack of threat and ignore his general striking ability and focus only on the few times Dobbin lost it its clear that Rondon should start.

Dobbin is also a wide forward he isn't a centre forward like DCL/Tosun/Rondon are.

I get the argument for Simms over Rondon but not Dobbin he plays in totally different position.

We have a kind of diamond up top with DCL, Gray/Gordon and then Richarlison behind DCL.

Dobbin should be in the Richarlison support striker type role.

In his short time on he showed what he’s about, pacy , runs at defenders , a very neat turn with the ball and obviously his inexperience at this level showed . But I’m less concerned about a young attacker trying something and losing the ball in our opponents half than say a young defender losing the ball. It shows a touch of self belief that can set attackers apart, a willingness to try the unexpected that the older Simms doesn’t have . He’ll learn from even that short exposure , I just hope we don’t try to coach his natural flair out of him in favour of a safety first approach . Not ready to start yet , but keep giving him minutes and training with the first team and he’ll continue to impress.

I agree. He shows real promise. His control is tidy, and that first touch and spin away from the Hull midfield when the ball popped out to him from their own corner was a flash of excellence.

Needs composure to make the right decision when it gets near the opposition box, and when he gets his debut goal this lad will be off and running.
