What?

I can.

Today, as all season, he was anonymous, completely anonymous all game. A Passenger.

That doesn't happen if "you cant fault their commitment and workrate"

Why not?

If he stould around with his hands on his hips i could understand.

Buit he doesn't.

He tries to get in the game but he is a good central midfielder stuck out of position on the right.

Kinda hard for him to really influence the game, espeically as so often our play goes down the left.

Its because he isn't good enough not because he doesn't try.

I think he is carrying an injury and needs a rest but who can come in for him at the moment.
Castillo too erratic and not prem class.
Gosling better off the bench,he has been looking a bit jaded last 2 games
he sterted.
Vdm injured again.

He has the ability to be a class premeirship player but doesnt have the physiuqe. As a result he get shifted around all over the place as a utility man.

His stature will always dictate that his career will never hit the heights his technical talent deserves.

Should keep him in the squad but hi is a postition we could do with strengthing, has been for years now.

Whats his position?:D

Central midfield - Osman, Pienaar, Arteta, Cahill can all play there.
Wing - Pienaar, Arteta, Osman, Gosling, VDM

3 of those 5 arent wingers. 2 of the 5 never get played.

Do we need an out and out winger or a central midfielder that can play the wings?

Hes played mostly on the right for us over the years, althoug he has played centrally when injuries etc have been an issue lets be honest if all our CM are fit hes not gettingin their, so realisticly your looking at the wing.

He's 2nd choice CM for me, unless Cahill's a good shout.

Last season he was a CM'er and was great. He's a central midfield player.

I'm not saying he's not a squad player but we're not getting the best out of him when we could use him.

Id agree naturally he is a CM player but he wont get a sniff! Sad but a fact.

I didnt think he was that good last season myself, hes competitive but there are a lot of frailites in his game in their.

Going forward hes a utility for injuries whereever theirs a space. Will never get ahead of Fellaini, Cahill, Arteta, especially with the advent of Rodders and Baxters in the next few years and whoever we may pick up in the summer.

I'm talking about now and this season though. He should be put in the middle.

Baxter aint a CM and has years to go, Rodwell the same - we look awful with him and Neville in the mid.

Fellaini's got a lot to learn. Cahill will be better choice but a very close call as a CM against Ossie IMO. But non will beat Arteta.

So 2nd choice to me. Like Fellaini will be 2nd choice for Cahill in the attacking mid position.

I see where you coming from mate, but not for me, tactics were all wrong for me today. Again just like at home we got mugged by their full backs (wouldnt you love Johnson).

I think Moyes underatted Pompey today. He had Jo Fellaini and Saha all playing in advanced positions and then anyone who was less then six foot playing against one of the biggest teams in the leauge. Fair enough we're down a few bodies but to be basicly playing two stirkers and an advanced midfeilder away form home against the biggest and strongest team in the leuge is crazy. Fellaini should have played deeper to at least be a nuisence or provided a bit of bite. Our midfeild was compleately outmuscled all game, and Neville uses his defennsive qualiites to always play it safe, unfortunately today his distribution meant we compleately by passed basicly three advanced players. Ossie and Pienaar tried but they were up against Giants, two banks of four as well i might add, while they were consistently tracking the runs of thier full backs.

Ossie is technically good in the centre and hey yeah it mighht be suitable for some games. For me it wouldnt have made a difference today, we clearly had more quality then them today we were just put muscled and out fought in a game were the ref let everything go. Tebnacity and leaving the boot in today won the game not techiuqe and quality so i dont think Ossie in the centre would have made the slightest bit of difference.

The best CM weve had since Arteta has been out has been, Nev, Cahill and Fellaini, with Pienaar and Ossie out on the wing, id stick with tha tif im honest.

We havent turned rubbish overnight you get these games coming toward the end of the season when teams are fighting for their lives, just a bad day at the office! Ref let to much go today as well which stiffled our quality.

I agree, tactics were all wrong.

But the big things I always say is that you need someone in the centre of the park that can get the ball and pass to advance the play.

We havent had that since Arteta has gone. Cahill can do it but he's only played 2 halves there in 4 weeks.

Moyes should know that. Rodwell is going to be a great player but he and Neville arent forward thinking players.

Ossie should've been in the middle when Arteta got injured.

Nice bit of knee jerk reactionism by people again. I'll simply say what I've said about him for a while, he's a neat player with reasonable qualities who makes a fine squad player for his reasonable versatility and workmanlike personality, but he shouldn't be a first choice player.

I'm afraid these cries of getting rid of this player or that player is Championship Manager talk and is more befitting of Newcastle and Spurs than ourselves.

I disagree Bruce.

I personally think we should be looking to offload him in the summer. As you said, he should be a squad player because he's not good enough to start week in, week out and so should be one of the candidates to be replaced. He is one of the expendable players we have who could raise a few million for a replacement.

In my opinion, he has been our worst performer this season.
