Leighton Baines

But this is the whole point.

No other club seems intereseted in paying big money for Baines.

It was the same with Fellaini.

United....or more specifically, Moyes......are the only game in town.

What does that tell you?

It tells you exactly what the fans of United whom have posted on here about those two players have been saying all along.

That the two players are very highly valued by Evertonians but by no one else.

It would be great if Citeh or Spurs got involved and it became a three way auction....but it won't.

If Baines isn't willing to commit his future to EFC then squeeze as much as we can from Moye, wish him well as he leaves and move the heck on.

Baines would walk in any team in the premier league and all teams would have him. It's the price tag nothing more

Oh?

So there was a queue of suitors fror Fellaini, then?

No.

And as for Baines......sorry, I am talking about the here and now, not a "couple of years ago".

Rest assured, sir, that if there were other clubs making enquiries then the new era Everton would be making it publuc to heat up a bidding war.

So to answer your query......it would most certainly be "in the papers".

They're two separate players knob rot.

Baines is widely regarded as the best LB in the league, and many would extend that to the best in the world. A price tag has to reflect that.

As I said, you can't prove that no other teams are interested in Baines, so your argument is invalid.

Now, now.....no need for foul mouthed, childish abuse.

And if Baines is the "best left back in the league/world" then every team in the "league/world" would be interested in signing him as he would improve their team ergo the price would "reflect" this fact and it would nudge ever higher.

In short, a large price tag wouldn't preclude a bidding war.

You, my potty mouthed friend, are shooting down your own argument :D

And when you can prove that a bunch of other teams are indeed after his signature come back and tell us about it.

Hope this helps :P

So.....in other words Baines is good but not so good that anyone other than Moyes would consider pay the price we value him at.

Which is precisely what I said.

I get your point, but there was a newspaper story the other day that said Man City were interested.

He's good but he's a left back and is 29 years of age. In the current market and everyone outside this club his worth is a maximum £12m and that's based on his performances this year. In the summer I would have taken £18m. I'm being conservative because of his position and age.

In his defence, you are chatting utter tosh, ironically, in a very condescending way. I'm pretty sure reading the second sentence of the quoted post has given me turbo AIDS of the eye.

Mate that isn't the point at all, he IS worth £20m to us and is worth that amount.

The issue is that any club will see his age and not want to spend that amount, which is fair enough but it has absolutely NO reflection on his ability or value.

I didn't see that but let's hope they are interested.

The more potential bidders the better.

And Citeh would be the ideal soloution.....an inflated transfer fee a lá Lescott and Rodwell and Moyes left looking like a prick.

:D

Look, you pay a premium for Baines because selling him would really mess up the remainder of our season. None of our current reserve left backs have had a chance to get themselves ready and we'd have to pay above the odds to get anything close to a decent LB in January as teams will know we're desperate

That's why it's acceptable that if Baines goes in January, he goes for a large price, Perhaps even larger than his standard price

Simple economics
