And if Baines is the "best left back in the league/world" then every team in the "league/world" would be interested in signing him as he would improve their team ergo the price would "reflect" this fact and it would nudge ever higher.

In short, a large price tag wouldn't preclude a bidding war.

He's good but he's a left back and is 29 years of age. In the current market and everyone outside this club his worth is a maximum £12m and that's based on his performances this year. In the summer I would have taken £18m. I'm being conservative because of his position and age.

Fellaini is younger than Baines that is the difference in fees for them - 29 in December still 4 years at the top maybe never the less BK should drive a hard bargain with UNT or City! He may stay newspaper talk is wayward sometimes!

Mate that isn't the point at all, he IS worth £20m to us and is worth that amount.

The issue is that any club will see his age and not want to spend that amount, which is fair enough but it has absolutely NO reflection on his ability or value.

Look, you pay a premium for Baines because selling him would really mess up the remainder of our season. None of our current reserve left backs have had a chance to get themselves ready and we'd have to pay above the odds to get anything close to a decent LB in January as teams will know we're desperate

That's why it's acceptable that if Baines goes in January, he goes for a large price, Perhaps even larger than his standard price
