I wonder if United will still sing they hate scousers burn them etc

If they had Rooney and Baines in their team.

Look a bit silly wouldn't it?

Hard business hat on my head: the lad is 29 years old next month and will play in the World Cup next year. With no sign of new deal on the horizon, he'll be entering the final year of his contract after the World Cup. He'll have been with us 7 years. His form has generally, a few bright spots aside, been below par this season. Everything about it screams SELL! It's not like United are swooping to sign a 23 year old hot prospect from us. Baines has clearly, based on his age alone, seen better days.

Heart ruling the head: Not selling to United/Refusing to sell to United would send the message that we will not be pushed around. I'm quite sure if we made it known that Baines might be available for transfer, that there would be other suitors. I simply would not sell him to United, not after everything. I'm quite sure someone like City, or maybe Spurs, would want him, and I wouldn't be that bothered if he went to either of them. In an ideal world he'd finish his career with us, but we all know footy isn't like that. But sooner or later we'd have to replace him anyway, so we might as well bite the bullet now and call Baines bluff, especially as he doesn't seem inclined to sign any new deal with us.

Baines will not sign a new contract deal with Everton?. If that is FACT , sell him. Sheesh people, football is business. BTW, how good was that All Blacks vs England Test match?...top drawer confrontation

Slowly i've changed my mind from ardently wanting to keep him, but its becoming clear that we should accept him leaving if it means we can get 16 million quid for him. Agree with other posters that Baines hasn't looked his best his season, still consistent but not a standout performer as in the past.

Sensible post. Just one thing. I think the days of Man Utd 'pushing us around' ended with the Fellaini deal, and with the change at the top at OT(manager and CEO). I think we are now much more bullish in the transfer market...for example if Baines did go for £16 million(aged 29 ish) thats around £43 million for him and Fellaini...pretty good business in my eyes. Also, BK now has a manager with a business head on him, not a manager whose first instinct was personal survival. It remains to be seen what funds Everton will have access to in January and next summer, but Martinez is talking up our financial situation already('we don't NEED to sell' etc). And as a slight aside, if Baines gets a fair amount of game time in Brazil, he will more than likely be pretty goosed the following season..a very common situation with players returning from the World Cup or European Championship. This happened with King Smurf and Heitinger to some extent, and they are by far from being the only 'victims'. For a minimum of £16 million, I'd sell, with the usual proviso that a suitable replacement was available, either from within, so that a striker could come in, or from outside, we will probably get a striker anyway.

I have no time for players who don't want to be at our club, Martinez had said he will sell players who don't want to be here. Players come and go. The only issue we will have is Man u will come back with the same offer of 12 million

None of us know if Baines has been offered a new contract by Everton, sure we can all speculate as to why this may or may not have been offered, and if it has why the delay in signing ?
What is fact is Baines has not been at his best this season, team tactics may certainly be a factor in this as Coleman is not getting forward as often as he used to.
February can't come quick enough for me,how about you ?

Couple of months ago everyone was saying dont sell. If Baines scores a winner in the derby everyone will say we CAN'T sell. Lets just concentrate on the games we have coming up because come January the better position and form we are in the more attractive proposition we will be to potential targets and if we choose to sell. Luke shaw perfect example, 18 months ago he was geting linked to the RS, spurs, utd even us, with Southampton flying he becomes a more unrealistic target because Southampton at the moment look an exciting team with a realistic ambitiont

....playing devils advocate, United are possibly in a decent bargaining position with Baines. Evra's form appears to have really picked up this season, Baines form has dipped of late and there doesn't appear to be any competition for his signature. Saying that, all of this can change if Baines returns to top form, he was excellent for England until the Chile game.

At times he does seem to be playing within himself this season which always makes me think something is on a player's mind especially if other offers are on the table. Could just be tactics though. However in his position as a player I would worry if his potential for impact and profile in the team was diminishing. He has worked so hard to get that profile up in a non CL team. But I think he has a greater attachment to us than Fellaini so do not think it is definite he will move on whereas Fellaini was never going to get a testimonial here. I am desperate for him to stay but really I am desperate for him to want to stay and say he believes his future is here. He is a quiet lad as far as media is concerned but the longer I do not hear those words the more I prepare my self for change. Fortunately I do not think we will just roll over fee wise but ultimately I only care about the quality on the pitch. I trust RM to be getting back up plans ready for every eventuality, he goes in jan, he goes in summer, he stays. Would loathe it if he goes to MU though.

Think it could be time to sell. However, we need a proper replacement, Garbutt and Oviedo not good enough. We missed out on Siqueira who looks the business, couple of years younger than Baines and would of allowed Garbutt a couple of years to progress.

But this is the whole point.

No other club seems intereseted in paying big money for Baines.

It was the same with Fellaini.

United....or more specifically, Moyes......are the only game in town.

What does that tell you?

It tells you exactly what the fans of United whom have posted on here about those two players have been saying all along.

That the two players are very highly valued by Evertonians but by no one else.

It would be great if Citeh or Spurs got involved and it became a three way auction....but it won't.

If Baines isn't willing to commit his future to EFC then squeeze as much as we can from Moye, wish him well as he leaves and move the heck on.

I feel Baines has not signed his new offered contract, and the club have kept it quiet - I feel with sadness if a 16 million offer comes in in January he may be gone as he is 29 on a contract that will be up shortly if the club can not offer him what he wants it is sad to lose him - I do feel its affecting his game he looked out of sorts for England the other night! still a great left back though!

It doesn't tell you everything you need to know at all.

How do you know that no other clubs are interested in Baines? Just because it's not in the papers. Bayern Munich were strongly rumoured to be interested in Baines a couple of years ago, and they're not exactly crap.

Oh?

So there was a queue of suitors fror Fellaini, then?

No.

And as for Baines......sorry, I am talking about the here and now, not a "couple of years ago".

Rest assured, sir, that if there were other clubs making enquiries then the new era Everton would be making it publuc to heat up a bidding war.

So to answer your query......it would most certainly be "in the papers".
