Leighton Baines

The way I read the situation is there's been interest the last few summers and before now, Baines has never shown any inclination in wanting to leave. However this summer, because the interest comes from a manager who has helped him grow and develop into what he is, he's been more receptive to the idea. I think we all accept had Man United offered our valuation Baines would have gone. As it was, Man U didn't, they left an offer on the table right up until the end of the window, we didn't accept and Baines didn't force the issue.

Stubbs' comments just reinforce rather than change my view on the situation. Ridiculous that he made them and God knows what he thought he'd achieve through doing it, but they haven't changed anything in my mind.

Exactly right imo mate.

I would not be surprised if an informal agreement is already in place for January.
Everton knew the supporters would live with the sale of Fellaini ,but not Baines and most certainly not Fellaini and Baines.
It would have created a hugely negative feeling for a manager who was new to the job.

We know that Moyes pushed hard to sign both but RM said that Utd didn't meet their valuation for Baines.
It is to Baines eternal credit that he too didn't demand a transfer on the last day. But, I think that no transfer request was posted because an agreement was reached with Baines that he would be allowed to leave at an agreed price in January.

By then RM will have more firmly established himself at the club ,would have four extra months to source new targets and would have a budget from the sale of Baines.

Of course we will have to see if Utd will trust Moyes with their money still in January.

I think Stubbs comments were the very first in preparing Evertonians for the sale of Baines. I don't believe RM will be upset with Stubbs for making the comment.

If your house was burgled and the police came and told you who done it, should we be upset with the copper as well as the robber??

Just saying like.

I get your point, but in that scenario you'd want to know who was the culprit. There was no need for this to be public knowledge. No need at all.

If that was the case then why so early? couldn't this have waited till after Christmas. Don't believe your theory for a second.

Okay, just read Stubbs's quotes.

While I'd argue whatever, no transfer request was handed in and he's still an Everton player. I still can't even fathom why Stubbs would come out and say that?

All it seems to achieve is to cast more uncertainty over the future of a fan favourite. To discredit someone whose conduct we've all applauded throughout the transfer window. To give Stubbs a bit of attention.

The above may sound somewhat extreme, but like I said, whatever he's our player.

..very much what I've been saying. Also worth noting that RM said he would not keep hold of anybody who wanted to leave, so suspect this backs up 'I would not be surprised if an informal agreement is already in place'. Stubbs appeared to have acted like a real dope, but I suppose he may have leaked the detail on behalf of the club to warm supporters to an inevitable move.

If Baines wanted to go why no official transfer request? That's what Fellaini did at the end of the day

I wouldn't have begrudged him it btw, Baines has been a model pro and a fantastic servant for Everton, a brilliant player as well, as much as I'd hate to see him in another team's jersey, if any player deserves the chance of medals and Champions League football it's him

Can you lads ask Stubbs to shut the [Poor language removed] up next time you see him at Goodison. He is not doing our club any good.

Two things:

First of all Stubbs said these things LAST WEEK. Ask yourselves why this is now being reported TODAY. This also marks the 5th consecutive time that there has been a story reported about one of our players possibly leaving the club THE DAY BEFORE A GAME. Is this just a coincidence or a concerted efforted to unsettle the player, the club or both? FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TIME. The person who reported this, Sam Wallace of the Independent, was the person who reported Baines wanted to leave a few weeks before the deadline expired. Wallace took loads of stick off Evertonians but was unrepentant. Wallace also hosts a show on Talksport that has had Stubbs as a guest a few times. Stubbs has been Talksport numerous times in the past month. You do the math who Wallace's source was for his story.

Secondly - Stubbs. Not the first time he's undermined the club, and won't be the last. He was the one that told Rooney to go (shared the same agent). He was the one that gave up the chance to captain Everton in Champions League football because he wanted more money and went to SUNDERLAND (!!!) instead. And slated the club on the way out in the media. And then came back 6 months later, tail between his legs, muttering about 'misunderstandings'. I flicked through his book in Waterstones. He covers his departure from Everton, spell at Sunderland and return to Everton in one page.

I've always said his results as Everton U21s boss aren't good enough and that we need someone else with fresh ideas. He's clearly not going anywhere anytime soon now that's brought his mate in (Unsy, who I have no problem with). So we're stuck with Stubbs.

But to come out with this stuff that really hurts the club's stance, because he trying to flog his book and is making speaking appearances on the radio and at things like this at the National Football Museum is really quite poor.

I hope Roberto asks Kenwright to sack Stubbs. What an idiot Stubbs is. Why can't he just shut his big mouth?

This may seem a stupid question, but I've never understood it so I'm going to ask.

If Baines is under contract till 2015, how can he leave in January? And if you say any player can go whenever they want by just requesting a transfer, then what's the point of offering him (or anyone) a long contract?
