Two things:
First of all Stubbs said these things LAST WEEK. Ask yourselves why this is now being reported TODAY. This also marks the 5th consecutive time that there has been a story reported about one of our players possibly leaving the club THE DAY BEFORE A GAME. Is this just a coincidence or a concerted efforted to unsettle the player, the club or both? FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TIME. The person who reported this, Sam Wallace of the Independent, was the person who reported Baines wanted to leave a few weeks before the deadline expired. Wallace took loads of stick off Evertonians but was unrepentant. Wallace also hosts a show on Talksport that has had Stubbs as a guest a few times. Stubbs has been Talksport numerous times in the past month. You do the math who Wallace's source was for his story.
Secondly - Stubbs. Not the first time he's undermined the club, and won't be the last. He was the one that told Rooney to go (shared the same agent). He was the one that gave up the chance to captain Everton in Champions League football because he wanted more money and went to SUNDERLAND (!!!) instead. And slated the club on the way out in the media. And then came back 6 months later, tail between his legs, muttering about 'misunderstandings'. I flicked through his book in Waterstones. He covers his departure from Everton, spell at Sunderland and return to Everton in one page.
I've always said his results as Everton U21s boss aren't good enough and that we need someone else with fresh ideas. He's clearly not going anywhere anytime soon now that's brought his mate in (Unsy, who I have no problem with). So we're stuck with Stubbs.
But to come out with this stuff that really hurts the club's stance, because he trying to flog his book and is making speaking appearances on the radio and at things like this at the National Football Museum is really quite poor.
This may seem a stupid question, but I've never understood it so I'm going to ask.
If Baines is under contract till 2015, how can he leave in January? And if you say any player can go whenever they want by just requesting a transfer, then what's the point of offering him (or anyone) a long contract?

Stubbs told The Sun that this was always going to be outcome, explaining: "Bainesy was never really an option to leave, the club had dug its heels in, but Bainsey had obviously said he'd like to go."
Errr...
