Leighton Baines. What is an 'acceptable' transfer fee?

And Jelavic went for under £5million. You cannot seriously compare the price to value range of one player to any other because there are too many variables.

All things considered if Man U buy Baines from us this summer it will be for between £15-£20 million.

Thats a realistic price but one that means people playing fantasy football manager will be dissapointed.

Is the key word.

Andy Carroll went for £35m, Jela went for £5m, Torres went for £50m, Demba Ba went for nothing, Henderson went for £18m, Cabaye went for £4m , Charlie Adam went for £8m, Pirlo went for nothing.

I'm not a huge Kenwrong basher, so to speak, but I'd find it extremely hard to accept if we sold Baines. Especially seeing as he was named as one of the 'untouchables' in that Blue Union interview thingy. He's clearly one of our most important players and also is an Evertonian who loves the club and by all accounts a nice chap too. Of course I understand that in our position buying players on the cheap then flogging them off for a tidy profit is good business... But, not Baines, surely not.

If he goes I will almost certainly have to ban myself for the amount of fuming I'll do!

baines isnt for sale so someone would have to bid a lescottesque amount to make us part with him

Yeah but, Charlie Adam was the best....................

Oh nevermind.

I think, as others have said, we wont get anymore than 20m.

I hope he stays tho, I really do.

Moist looks like hes playing the free Transfer market, now whilst these players arent free, they are certainly cheapish.

Jelavic was a completely unique situation whereby Rangers were about to go bust and not complete the season.

We can estimate the transfer fee of a player compared to their value to the team.

Baines is arguably our best player, under a lengthy contract, happy at the club and wanted at the club. The only people pushing his departure are the media, who always have this idea in their heads that really good players can't stay at Everton and must be moved on to who they deem a "top club". The fact is, United have not made a single enquiry, formal or informal.

£20m+ for Baines is reasonable, given what Joleon Lescott and Glen Johnson went for.

You can compare and liken situations with other players who are settled at their clubs, under lengthy contracts, are considered to be in the top 2 or 3 in their position in this country, and who are happy at their clubs, don't cause any trouble, and are still wanted by both the manager and fans.

Does Moyes value or want Baines any less than he wanted Lescott? Most people would say no, so why do some people think Moyes would accept much less for Baines? The situations really aren't that different.

Variables matter, but the variables that count are in favour of Baines - English, proven, no one else like him available.

Andy Carroll - Striker, English premium, top league, young.

Nikica Jelavic - Crisis club, inferior league.

Fernando Torres - International reputation, proven top league goalscorer.

Demba Ba - Contract, African, unproven.

Jordan Henderson - English premium, young.

etc. etc. etc....

Basically, because he's English, because he's happy at his current club, because he's under a lengthy contract and because there's no better available left back in world football, these are all variables which tell you that we should be expecting in excess of £20m, if not £25m.

Did you not read mine and rufus posts above where we pointed out how you cannot use one players transfer fee to show what other players should then go for?

£15 to £20 million for Baines is the right price considering all factors involved in the deal : Everton, Man U, and Leighton Baines.

What Lescott and Johnson or any other player in the world got sold for has absolutely no effect whatsoever in any way shape or form on what Baines will be sold for.

We could rebuild if we get £20m. I guess we could possibly be alright with £18m but no lower. Any less than that and we might as well call it a day. He's a massive asset going forward and he's bang in his prime.

I wouldn't sell him for less than £50 million. A hand full of magic beans it is then......

Yes we are. Baines is under contract for 3 years, settled, doesn't want to leave and Moyes doesn't want him to leave.

If finances were so desperate and dire, we wouldn't have signed Naismith. Make Utd pay for a top player. They won't though, so this is all for nought.

Naismith was a free and we've freed up some wages with Saha and Arteta out the squad.

And no, we're not. Moyes doesnt want anyone to leave, but he's not going to be able to buy ANYONE without selling. Baines' maybe settled, but you wont be twisting his arm and kicking him out to United - he'll be happy to go and take a step up, who wouldnt?

We're a 7th-8th team, pushing for Europa league now. To me, if a Chelsea, Arsenal, United etc all come knocking on the door for a player, I'd expect to get a decent fee but nothing of the sorts of what happened with Lescott etc.
