Steve Walsh - Director of fkall
Not just a LB...and there should've been a few (besides Barkley) lined up to go out tooThis.
It is outrageous that the club didn't have a left back lined up and ready to be paraded on January the 1st. Baines has been rubbish for years and the club knew he had a bad injury that would keep him out for several months. Now it's been over a month and BFS is quoted as saying "he's a good way off". We had no backup for him, at all. We tried our third choice right back for a few games who proven he is quite possibly the worst left back ever to play professional football. We had no other options as the manager wanted to stick with the same formation, so he kept Martina in the side, who then voided Sigurdsson's impact on games, who was being played out of position anyway and had to track back to double up on opponents on the right hand side as Martina cannot cope. Baines out with a serious injury and finished anyway, no backup, third choice right back playing appalling at left back, yet no players lined up, not even somebody to cover us until the end of the season. Shocking.
After the summer debacle you'd think the DOF would have been held accountable for the massive failings in the transfer market, apparently not. I wonder if there is anything he could do that would lead to him being dismissed? Seems not. Everton, that.
You forgot. How to sign a left back, the correct way.
- Scout left backs
- Compile shortlist of potential players
- Start at player in #1 position
- Contact club asking about availability of player
- Contact agent asking about availability of player
- If successful interest in move proceed with transfer negotiations
- Carry out contract negotations and medical
- Confirm player signing in terrible Twitter video or GIF
- If 4 or 5 fail return to 3 but start at next player on the list e.g. #2
- Repeat until player is purchased
How to sign a left back, the Steve Walsh way.
- Pack sun glasses, speedos, linen shirt. Don't forget the passport & Euros
- Idtenify a player who's available on a free e.g. Sead Kolasinac
- Go to foregin country and watch a player at most twice
- Contact agent asking about availability of player
- Get rejected
- Stay in foreign country for 2 more weeks - make it looks like serious work is going on
- Top up the tan some more
- Return and say that the transfer didn't work out, player wanted CL football or another club came in
Sadly I’m coming round to this way of thinking. Baines hasn’t been the same player since that awful ankle injury a couple of years ago, but his decline has been accelerated in the last 6 months. Fair enough, allardayce hasn’t seen him play since he come here, but you would think the coaching staff and our DOF would be aware of his demise. We’re not buying one, simple as that.
Whether it’s because Baines has so much pull that he’s untouchable or the manager is actually crazy I’m not sure, but we won’t sign one this January.
With all due respect mate, this is not Fifa or FM. The next best thing to a left back.....is a right back.
"He can definately defend, he reads play very well can man mark the hell out of a player, he has tenacity and pace is certainly not afraid of a good challenge, he is comfortable with the ball... he has ok distribution nothing to shout home about and im sure he would love a chance to bomb down that wing and prove himself"
Besic does NOT read the play well....thats why he has to dive in all the time, due to poor positional sense and being too slow.
He can not man mark either, based on my point above. "He marked Messi out of the game".....nope, Messi scored 1 set the other up and got man of the match in that game.....pure myth.
Tenacity = Fouls alot....thats a liability, with this defence.
Comfortable with the ball he is not, as he cant pass very well either.
He is a cool sounding foreign player, with tat's who goes around kicking people.
IF he was to play for us, it would have to be at centre back....with 7 centre mids to protect him.
Club have messed up, and NEED to buy a left back. Its that simple.
Ok this response is so much more interesting than the tongue in cheek version you started with, but still i take issue
A. Why does any opinion that differ to your’s be the result of Fifa or FM? You know zero about me, my understanding of football or my role as a coach (obviously not of a standard for a club like ours)
B. Why you feel it neccessary to “educate me” on Besic as if I am not an Evertonian and have not watched him play for us and cannot form my own conclusions?
C. I dont believe the statement I made was that he could man mark Messi, I believe the statement was he can man mark the hell out of a player. Now I feel with the type of personality you are displaying you will need examples, I remember a christmas game vs QPR under Martinez were Barkley scored a worldie that Besic had kept BOTH their threats quite in Bobby Zamora and Jordan Mutch.... he man marked 2 in that example he was EVERYWHERE
D.Tenacity- now i do not know about yourself but I know that many Evertonians including myself hold Tenacity as a MASSIVE character strength as we have lacked it in many players for years.... as for fouls David Luiz has an ATROCIOUS record for conceding fouls... i would still put him in the top 10 cb’s in the world
D. Comfortable with the ball, well we will just have to agree to disagree as i find it his most obvious strength, when martinez had us doing the tika taka out from the back he would comfortably meet the defence collect the ball from the player beat a man and offload.... you will also notice i criticised his passing just as you have
E. My favourite Everton player of all time is Duncan Ferguson ( notice i said favourite not best) got nothing to do with fancy names and tattoo’s
F. I agree the club have messed up and need to buy one again i will re-direct you to my first paragraph, the fact is when you break down how long a transfer really takes and the fact that Spurs was the first time Allardyce alluded to problems outside of attack and pace, we really do not have the time remaining! As for the RB shout i agree hence i mentioned Aaron Lennon also and if he was fit i would have mentioned Ramiro Funes Mori take Holgates position and try Mason out there.... i was asking people for THEIR opinions.... i did not say i had the answer
As far as Besic is concerned i would lile you to prove evidence of him being a poor player in an Everton shirt for a longer period of time than any other player in our squad at that time
I remember him having a sensational christmas january period i remember him absolutely dominating against man city and i remember him being Everton Player of the month
I think a combination of your bias towards Mo Besic, your desire to be right and for some odd reason your propensity to assume a fellow blue dosent have as much emotional investment or knowledge of the club as you has made you come across a bit of a tit
Im sure you are a nice fella and i like to reserve animosity for debating with rednoses not my extended family
Jesus lad, playing the victim.
Besic is not that good, hence why 4 amnagers wont play him.
Maybe we should just not play full backs at all..........
We have a Club full of themI like that we have Steve Walsh, he is a new scapegoat for us to have.
I am sorry was i not allowed a rebuttle in this discussion?
A shame that I make the effort to explain myself to avoid any confusion my original post might have left you with but now tou have been provided a strong argument against you throw your hands up and procede to blanket statements...
I could point out errors in judgement from all four of those managers you claim won’t play him is it inconceivable that regardless of their faults our two best recruiters of recent times being David Moyes and Roberto Martinez both rate him? Also i pointed out that is for the role of center midfield for which we have had better options available to us... if there were only 4 cm’s in our squad Besic included then i guarantee you all four managers u claim wouldnt play him would have played him more often
Name a left back in our squad outside of Leighton Baines that is a better football player than Mohammed Besic
You are the one that engaged this debate and threw out tongue in cheek insults, don’t throw the toys out of the pram now you have been responded to
The maybe we shouldnt play a lb at all comment....
If we had a leftback available this wouldnt be a thread now would it
Forums are not for you mate.
You are taking every word too serious, almost as a personal insult.
I'm going to stop now before you claim bullying.
Is he director of football or head of recruitment ?Gross negligence from the club as a whole. But mainly Steve Walsh as it's his only job.
