Distin and Yobo are trying to forge a partnership in an unsettled team low on confidence. It takes time to build an understanding. Under normal circumstances they'd probably have got there act together by now, but with the chopping and changing and lack of form around them, it's been impossible.
I'm more concerned about the midfield to be honest.
As a team we aren't defending well. I wouldn't just pin all the blame on Distin and Yobo. Whilst neither of them are in Jags' league they are far from [Poor language removed] players.
We are so unbalanced and this comes down to poor planning in the summer. Bringing players in late, injuries and lack of team building. We may aswell not do pre-season, it seems to be a waste of time for Everton.
Last season Moyes had everyone fit and available and he was able to find a formula that worked, this season that's not the case. That is worrying.
It is a realistic answer, it's just that unfortunately they'd either have to be outrageous bargains or [Poor language removed] players.
At least we will have Bilyaletdinov and Pienaar playing together from now (hopefully), that solves a lot of problems. To be honest I think we could have spent the Lescott money a lot better, I don't know where the Lescott replacement is going to come from now really.
To be fair to Moyes, it isn't easy to sign when you've only got a week to sign around four players aswell as replace one of your best players.
Jo, Distin, Heitinga, Bilyaletdinov and Neill are good players in my opinion, sadly they've come into a side lacking in confidence and it hasn't been easy to settle.
it obviously has nothing to do with our centre backs. Distin has been a great player this year, but we've seen way too much of him. we're inviting more attacks and our opponents have the ball in our half for far too big a percentage of the game.
the reason distin has seemed such a great player is because he has way too many opportunities to make plays than a centre back should. with gosling repeatedly starting at right midfield, cahill often playing out of position, and numerous suspensions, our midfield has been pathetic and desperately lacking.
once we start winning 50/50 balls in midfield and attacking more, we'll stop leaking goals.
I think it is combine many factor to us leaking alot of goals, although confidence, form & luck are the major cause to us leaking goal.
I feel when most of our injured player come back or when we string 2~3 league win together, and our confidence are back, the whole team including the defence would do better.
Back to basics....A string of scrappy 1-0 wins will do the trick....Teams know if they attack us we cant defend for toffee. Wern't so long ago the same defence had 5 clean sheets in 7 games..I believe it's the same players.
We need a clean sheet, some of the defending recently has been park football standard. Maybe concentration is lacking, but I think the lack communication at the back is a big factor. We miss the Neville type leadership.
Confidence is then flakey , and players start to hide. We need a passionate , pride filled performance on Sunday to stop the rot. But the passion needs to come from us the fans too. Too many times Goodison is like a morgue.
I just hope all week since Hull , the players have got their mindset right and are determined to put hings right and not thinking another easy pay-packet this week.
