Last Film You Watched

I've not played it and it's on Xbox which I don’t have. Any good horror games on the PlayStation?

Problem with a lot of horror films is they just descend into people running around and screaming. Even the ones that start with an interesting idea.

Did anyone find The Blair Witch Project scary?

I did but I was 14 when it came out and haven’t seen it since so don’t know if I still would now.

My main issue with a lot of horror films is how they handle the “reveal” and then often just ignoring the rules that have been set up in favour of creating interesting set pieces. This is more of an issue in supernatural horror than in slasher type films. I think part of the issue is they have an interesting central idea but often don’t know how to actually put that into a coherent full length film.

Or stretch it out to make the idea/s worthy of a 90 minute film. 'The Descent' took a good idea and made it work by expanding on what they had.
I watched a film called 'Upgrade' that's classic B movie fayre, ironically, one idea given arms and legs and allowed to run.

Only film that has made me ruminate on it afterwards was It Follows. I still think about it occasionally now.

Event Horizon scared me when it came out but I was, like, 16.

The Ring - the original Japanese version - frit me a bit when I first saw it, but it's a slow burn. Back in 2000 My fwb housemate and I had got back from the pub on a Friday night and were watching whatever was on Channel 4 while smoking some Js (Graham Norton I'm guessing). That finished and then this Japanese horror film started at like 11pm and we just got sucked into watching it. When it finished at like 1am we were both pretty shook by it. My housemate refused to sleep in her own room (which had a telly) and demanded to sleep in my room (which did not have a telly) which I thought meant I was gonna get some, it being Friday and all, but apparently that film, as well as being scary, was also a complete libido killer. So, yeh, not recommended if you're looking to get your leg over on Halloween.

The Ring and Event Horizon I’ve seen mate, crackers. I went through a spell years ago of watching Japanese and Korean films. I’ve not heard of It Follows; I’ll defo look that one up. Appreciate the recommendation

The first Don’t Breathe is very good, second one not so good, as you know what it’s all about by then.

Another couple :

The Hills Have Eyes - both versions.

Wrong Turn - Both versions.

I’ve definitely seen wrong turn, I think I’ve also seen the hills have eyes. Those sorts of films don’t really do it for me. Those sort of slasher/body horror type films. I know that’s not exactly what they are but I think ones that are more spooky then gory are more my bag. Horror is such a weird genre to get right for me, a lot of it I think is really bad but the ones that I rate are some of the best films

Hellhouse is basically a cursed hotel, haunted asylum is what it says on the tin, Poughkeepsie tapes is serial killer scenario, thing with films is its a lot like music, it's individual taste , 3 recent ones people raved over were longlegs, weapons, 28 years later, I thought all 3 were poor

I’ve seen all 3 of those, I thought long legs was creepy but it was more Cage.
The actual film wasn’t great. Weapons I thought was alright but was very unexpected based on what I thought it was going to be. Nothing special. 28 years later I thought was alright again nothing special, but odd compared to 28 days later

Mrs Bluerobert has tasked me with finding the spookiest of films for this years Halloween film night. I’ve only recently started to enjoy some horror films mostly because I just find them not scary and as such really crap films.

Hereditary really got me into the genre. I’ve seen insidious and the Nun and they were a return to boring film form. Can any horror fans suggest anything “truly knicker wettingly spooky” as Mrs Bluerobert put it.

Just to add we’ve started watching a few over the last Halloweens and honestly I don’t think I’ll ever be spooked again

Ever play the video-boardgame Atmosfear with the Gatekeeper? I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it and the intense music. Way better time spent than modern "scary" films

The omen and poltergeist were probably scary at the time; I watched them as a kid and remember being a bit creeped out by the old guy in poltergeist but overall by modern standards I think they’re pretty tame. nice. There's an argument that 'The deer hunter' is a horror, I don't find 'Psycho' or 'The birds' especially scary, but we have to remember that once there was nothing, and now the small cinema that is also our phone can deliver stuff from real life that is probably not very healthy for us.

It's a changed world. Mentioned VHS a moment ago, there's a significant proportion of the Everton support that wouldn't know what that is.

Or the horrors of somebody taping over your favourite VHS even after you’d snapped out the little tab. I lost many a good bluey to people recklessly taping over them
