Last Film You Watched

Will definitely see again, which is a refreshing feeling to come out of the cinema with these days.

The visuals were stunning, the music (which I was worried about) a superb and worthy successor to Vangelis' original soundtrack

It was a sci-fi noir in much the same way as the original, but it felt like a sequel as opposed to a homage. Gosling was fantastic but I was most impressed with the girl who played the replicant who was pursuing him

Agree, she wasn't an obvious choice or big name, but played the part to perfection.

I also thought that the relatively unknown Cuban girl, who played Goslings virtual girlfriend was perfectly cast too.

She wasn't as overtly striking as Sean Young, but played the part perfectly too.

Yep, great performances all round. Leto needs to rein it in a bit, as always lol

It never looked or felt like CGI (another concern I had going in) and it was refreshing to see a camera linger slowly over the landscape, never flash cutting for fear of blowing the illusion. It felt absolutely huge

My only gripe was the unecessary "revolution" subplot, was a bit contrived and I thought the concept of a replicant reproducing had enough inherent implications that it didn't require some robot uprising to give it any more weight. Minor nitpicking though. I loved it

As always on Halloween it's horror film night. Tonight I watched three of my absolute favorite movies of all time.

Halloween (1978) and Halloween H20 (1998)
These are the films that turned me into the movie lover I am today. H20 was actually the first horror film I ever watched and that's probably why I love it as much as I do. Slasher movies have never been done better than in these two films. And I gotta say; I love Jamie Lee Curtis. 10/10 for both films.

On Halloween last year I watched Halloween 1, 2, H20 and Resurrection. I'm glad I didn't bother watching the others tonight, although H2 is a decent film..

..because that saved me enough time to watch:

The Exorcist (1973)
It's probably the fourth or fifth time I watch this and it still leaves me almost speechless. The tension, the atmosphere, the actual scariness and last but not least the lighting in this masterpiece is second to none. This film is 44 years old and it's scarier than anything that comes out today. It doesn't need a ton of gore (even though it gets nasty at times) or ridiculous jumpscares with the help of loud sounds. The film has also got a few moments that made me laugh just because they're so wrong, though I'm sure it wasn't a laughing matter back in '73. The Exorcist truly is one of THE greatest films ever made. 10/10

One of the last proper movie stars. He’s endlessly mockable but he has such a solid filmography. Minority Report, Collateral and recently Edge of Tomorrow all demonstrate how capable he is. Think he makes more interesting choices than a lot of other big actors as well.

Although the mummy was gash. Severe gash.

He's absolutely superb in The Last Samurai. A very down to earth role, played with a lot of respect and subtlety.

Saw this at the cinema when they re-released it some time back. Plays out more like a comedy nowadays imo, everyone was pissing themselves in places, and not scary at all.

Agree with everything you’ve said here. The exorcist should easily be in the top 5 horror films of all time for anyone who likes the genre. But as you say, it’s not even simply a great horror film, it just is a great film. Full stop.

Have you ever seen any of the subsequent sequels? I quite enjoyed the third film... but the Exorcist II: The Heretic is quite possibly one of the worst films ever made.

Sadly haven't had the opportunity to watch the sequels yet. I'll keep them in mind!

Watched this on Film4 last night.

Really strange film, in that it was very bad in parts ( cliched ) and very good in others (suspense ).

Three soldiers stray into a cave containing a demonic temple in the Iraq desert and become possessed.

A series of seemingly ritualistic murders, linked to the soldiers are investigated by New York Detective, Eric Bana, with the help of a priest.

Some very good, some very bad.
