been a while since I watched Korean movies - absolute love them. this was no exception - 2.5 hours long but really enjoyed it. Recommended.

Even freakier as I put the laptop to sleep closed the cover and went to bed. Just as I was getting in to bed the laptop started itself up and started playing the end credits freaky music again.

Unfortunately due to this not being the matrix, and me not being Neo, I unable to read code that makes up everything we see, so can't tell what those movies are... I'm sure they're great tho!

The Prestige.

Nolan's characters leave me cold and the same story here: Michael Caine playing the same fella he's always played, the over-rated Christian Bale playing the same moody one-note he feels safest performing (such a shame as he was brilliant in American Psycho), the two broads being forgettably bland. Only Wolverine did well from the main cast, also played a stunner as Root. David Bowie was also good.

Another Nolan issue is the timelines being all over the shop, but it was just about bearable. The camera was mainly handheld and this sometimes prevented a clearer look at certain sleight of hands, which was probably the intention but it was a bit offputting.

On the plus front the film was something very different to the norm, very well told and genuinely kept me guessing. Expert use of misdirection.

In the end despite the niggles I was impressed and rate it my favourite Nolan: 8/10. From his work still to see The Following and Insomnia. I get why he's so highly-rated, just not always my cup of tea.

Excellent film work from South Korea, top 3:

Oldboy
Save The Green Planet
I'm a Cyborg but that's OK

two on my watchlist both featuring the amazing Choi Min-sik:

The Admiral - Roaring Currents
I Saw the Devil

seen all 3 mate. I saw the devil is so gruesome almost unbearably so.

Oldboy is part of a trilogy - sympathy with Mr Vengeance and Lady Vengeance. Lady vengeance was my favourite but the only one I got to see in the cinema - an empty cinema too which is the best kind.

White Bird In A Blizzard (2014) -

Shailene Woodley (Kat), Eva Green (Eve) and Christopher Meloni (Brock), star in this 'coming of age' drama, set around the disappearance of Kats mother.
It didn't do too well at the box office or in reviews but, I really enjoyed it.
Good acting, decent storyline and cool soundtrack. 7.5/10.
