Last Film You Watched

'State of play' (2009).

Much much less than the sum of its parts. Part 'All the presidents men', part 'the insider', and a few political thrillers and botched actioners.
Mirren doesn't sell me a news paper editor. Nor Crowe some stellar reporter. Affleck isn't likeable enough to be the heroic centerpiece. Always nice to see Robin Wright, Jeff Daniels no way near smarmy or sleazy enough. McAdams underused. Bateman was the right choice.
4 typewriters on Park Row out of 10. Decidedly average.

Scream 7 is unsurprisingly pretty rubbish. Some inventive kills but so much is bad about it. I know you have to suspend reality to some extent in slasher films but when they do so much that is clearly just down to lazy writing it’s hard to stay engaged.
There’s only so many ways you can scream I guess. What I have seen in the last couple of movies is that one or two of the murders have been a little gorier, but the movies are just plain old tosh.

Watched that last night, very good. Poor lad, been through the mill, for sure. The fire place got to me!

Tremendous film.

Well written, very sensitivity handled, never patronising, equally funny and heartbreaking at the same time.

I thought as much as Robert Aramayo was outstanding as John Davidson, Maxine Peake as his adopted mum, Dottie was just perfect for the role and the film just wouldn’t have been the same impact without her playing Dottie.

10/10.
