Last Film You Watched

Watched Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning.

It was nearly 3 hours long and I felt every painful second of that film. I can't recall watching a Mission Impossible film before (but the Mrs tells me I watched "the one where he's running down that skyscraper that's somewhere" so I'm not going to argue) so maybe diving in with the last one was a bad idea. But if they're all like this I'm not going to bother with another one.

Impenetrable plot. long-winded action scenes that feel like they may never end (he's survived holding onto a bi-plane for 20 minutes and finally defeated the bad-guy and nicked his parachute, but wait... his parachute is on fire. I said to the Mrs "I hope he dies" and she agreed with me.)

Positives: Tom Cruise ran from the Houses of Parliament to the City in about 6 seconds. That's pretty rapid. Wonder if he can play right back. Sign him up Davey boy.

Awful film: 2/10.

like watching 'godfather 3' and judging 1 & 2 based on it.

I'm not a specific cruise fan (he's made a lot of dross, not nic coppola levels but still!) you've watched the second half of the final act double.
The first part is mind boggling, you've gone in for this with your chin high and guard down.

mi1 is actually alright. No idea what the carl lewis (sprinter) inspired follow ups are about.

I had no idea it was the second part of a two part finale. No wonder it was incomprehensible. I'm down with Cruise, man. Yeh, oddball bloke who didn't age for 30 years and now looks like he's melting who I wouldn't want over for tea, but Cruise in a film is a big plus for me. Reason I've never watched the others is because I don't like that kind of serious action film. I've never seen the Bourne films for the same reason.

Would now be a bad time to state I don't really like the Godfather films?

A lot to digest here. So lets do it a bit at a time.
The MI film you've just watched was originally sub titled "Dead reckoning part two". So I've no idea what lead you into the eighth iteration first. And the second part of the final two-piece at that.
I've never met him, but there seems to be a mildly oddball situation re divorce agreements he has set up to keep former partners nice and quiet.
I can acknowledge his star power, he's made good films with a few heroes, not least Hackman (The Firm), Nicholson (A few good men), Hoffman (Rainman), Duvall (Jack Reacher) Newman (ColoUr of money). The MI franchise for me is a tongue in cheek James Bond-lite bit of fun. Over the top actioners. MI2 is a real stinker. The Bourne films are much more serious, and the original is a belter. Lost their way from there and I really like Brian Cox.
Best 3 Cruise films... 4th of July, Minority report, Risky business. The Top Gun double are light and breezy fluff. Only he could have gotten them made.

Now to the main course. The Godfather films and the thing stuck on the end at III have very little in common. The first two are wonders of cinema and Pacino gives the performance of a lifetime in a career of lifetime performances. The American dream, taken through the abattoir then sold off and deconsecrated. Evil, corruption, villainy, and the cuttingest of cut throat greed. I believe the original being released in 72 makes it one of the shortest lived films to then be preserved for the U.S. National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 1990. The 70's gave us some sublime films. Jaws, The deer hunter, Close encounters, Deliverance, Blazing Saddles, Chinatown, Exorcist, Taxi driver, Alien, Apocalypse now, Enter the dragon, One flew over the cuckoo's nest, and atop the lot (and I make no secret I've watched Alien, Aliens and Jaws in the hundreds each) is the two Godfather offerings.
It might be an age thing. Epic's can be a tough watch, keeping the concentration up, I've given up on films before, not least Ben Hur. heston was very easy to dislike, and a 4 hour marathon about religion was something I couldn't get into.

The bloke can’t take a joke either! 🫢

I really liked Stanley Tucci too.

Totally over the top, but added a lot of entertainment and looked like he was having a great time in the role.
I forgot that Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks were also in it.
It wasn’t a bad cast, all in all…

"Iron lung", touted as one of the most terrifying films ever, its on for 2 hours and in that time I took four paracetamol it's a truly awful film, spend the two hours butting a wall, more fun and less painful
"Shelter" our friend Statham batters everyone and eventually fills in the baddest baddie, the usual stuff from him, sit back turn off your brain and enjoy
