Laurel had his heart set on one one more film, but the studio vehemently passed on it stating that their style of humour was dated. Not long after that Hardy's heart gave out effectively ending the comedy duo.
I remember seeing a picture somewhere of Laurel standing beneath a giant Abbott and Castello poster and he just looked completely dejected.
I dunno, I just always thought it was a sad ending. That and the fact that after Hardy passed, Laurel kept on writing skits for them until he passed.
