Last Film You Watched

Calibre (film on Netflix)
Scottish thriller where a pair of friends go hunting om the highlands but things go badly wrong.
Its a simple plot but really well executed. A cast of nobody I'd ever heard of perform excellently.
Recommend.

Think its one of those movies that, the more you watch, the more you appreciate the attention to detail and when you do its borderline brilliant. But the fact it is so hard to follow is a big downside. I get that the viewer is meant to understand and work things out at the same pace as the Protagonist but I think things just happen too fast and would have benefitted from being slower paced with some dialogue hints like Inception had.

Thanks for that mate, I’ve been looking at Calibre and you’ve just made my mind up.

Cheers.

Just watching The Dissident, Brian Fogel's new film (the guy who did Icarus). It's about the Saudi journo who was murdered a few years back in Istanbul.

He was on Rogan last week, and the interview was great. The film's superb but is only available to buy or rent as no streaming site would take it - because it obviously paints the Saudi government in an awful light, and they have so much influence that even Netflix, Amazon, Apple etc passed it up. Keep in mind Fogel's an Oscar winner, and this film won heaps of praise at the Sundance festival last year.

It can be bought or rented so get on it, and honestly, just remember how lucky we are not to live in a society where people are beheaded for airing a different opinion to those that rule.

Ham on Rye

Creepy coming of age style film. Very David Lynch. Loved it.

Thought the same.

That type of film is just bait for the awards.
I was really shocked by how bad it was. Each introduction of a famous British actor was like you didn’t see their face fully or something, then they turn around and the audience is meant to be like ‘oh look it’s Mark Strong!’
It was an utterly terrible script and very bad acting. Some good Cinematic shots at times

Just watched this mate, excellent and one that’d be very easily overlooked.

Punches well above its weight and I really didn’t see the beginning coming.

The location and cinematography are spot on too.

@jaycee one for you

Had that predictable war film trope these days where the protagonist has an encounter with a woman in trouble. Nonsense and completely unnecessary scene that derailed the film.
