Last Film You Watched

Only God Forgives

Looks very good, sensational in parts, but there wasn't much substance there despite it's pretensions.

I'm a big fan of Ryan Gosling's moody silent acting style but the way it's completely overdone in this you can't for one second believe his character functions in any useful way as part of any organisation, let alone a hugely profitable drug smuggling ring. Makes his Drive character look like John Candy in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
Thought it was awful myself. I saw it when it came out so can't remember all the details but thought it was a pile of pretentious garbage.

I kind of want to watch it again to remind myself of why I hated it so much but there is no way I'm sitting through it again.

I think I pretty much disliked it but I quite enjoyed or admired parts of it. More impressed by the technical level probably as it's a great looking film.

Definitely leaves an icky taste though - the whole substance free subplot with Kristin Scott Thomas's character seemed like something knocked together by an edgy 4chan poster who'd just learned about Oedipus.

Same. Thought it was complete garbage.

I ended up getting a lecture off somebody about how it was an actual masterpiece and I just didn’t understand it. Made me hate it even more.

Carnival of Souls

Just watched and recommend..

One to look at if you've YouTube on your TV as free of charges - A cult classic horror film from 1962 (I know ancient but well worth it)

Carnival of Souls - 80 mins film so relatively short.

American but low budget set in Utah small town USA - released as a double bill premiered in Kansas so unnoticed

Has gained notoriety (in a good way) as influencing many famous directors including Cesar Romero and David Lynch, wired dream like sequences and very atmospheric, proof that less can be more in horror.

Just read on wiki, didn't know a bean about it before then - excellent marks on rotten tomatoes imdb etc

Honestly worth it if you've never seen it before.

Should have been influenced directors George.A. Romero and David Lynch

Cesar Romero was an old American actor lol

And typo error - Wierd dream like sequences NOT wired dream like sequences lol

The Worthy. ( on Netflix )

Watched this last night, more out of curiosity than anything else, as it’s made in the U.A.E.

Rival warring factions have destroyed an unnamed Arabic country and poisoned the water. Leaving the remaining survivors to hole up in ruins and guard their water supplies.

Follows a group of survivors, living in an old aircraft factory, when a newcomer threatens to destroy their harmony.

You have to bear in mind, that this probably the first film from the U.E.A. to get a global release.

Good in parts, not so good in others, but still worth watching. It’s incredibly brutal though.
