Last Film You Watched

Thought it was dull, forgettable, overly serious and even a little cringe, myself. And I say that as someone living in the old East now.

Dunno, the ending was very well done imo.

I can totally see how it can be viewed as overly serious though and even a bit pretentious... still thoroughly enjoyed it though.

We might have different tastes. Other German films I rate are Das Experiment, 23, Der Untergang, Requiem, Das Boot, Angst essen Seele auf. I'm not keen on the self-pitying style of German films. The problem generally with contemporary German cinema is the incessant focus on the Big Two of The Wall & The War. Even indirectly with films like Die Welle which rammed its message a little too obviously down our throats.

I've recently got hold of some Herzog, Fassbinder & Wenders classics on DVD, should be a quality antidote.

3 Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri.
Terrific film. So close to being 10/10.
Lead actors are superb - Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell deffo Oscar winners.
I'm hoping that will still be showing when we get home. Haven't seen Frances McDormand in anything that wasn't a great film and where she wasn't great in it. Fargo and Burn After Reading for instance

Watched this last night on BBC 2.

Excellent ultra dark comedy and quite disturbing in parts, with a faultless performance from Brendan Gleeson.

Brendan Gleeson plays a world weary, but decent priest in a small coastal village in Ireland. During a confessional, a parishioner tells Gleeson, that as a boy, he was ritually abused by a priest and intends to murder Gleeson in revenge.

Think of a very dark version of Father Ted and you’re getting there.

Just added it to my things to do list when I get back home

The Big Sick

Really enjoyed it. Sad and funny. 8/10

Girls Trip

A bit crude and not really my sense of humour but there were some good bits and it had a nice message in the end. 7/10.

Not bad, adapted from a play and that shows a bit, kinda 'stagey', great performances from Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman, very sadly missed. Amy Adams in a nuns habit gave me some wicked thoughts...

This had passed me by somehow, it's generally very good, Sean Penn is terrific, there's just summat that doesn't ring true about the Tim Robbins character and his actions.
