Boro in the cup, towards the end of Smith, 8000 and we were awful, if i recall right we got that many the club put them on on sale to season ticket holders from the start without any credit criteria as there was that many, cant recall us doing that since
Dreadful day that Carlin, got a puncture too on the A1 coming home to compound my misery(n)

Away following can only be as big as the amount of tickets available to buy, so by my reckoning we've sold out every single away from 2012 onwards if that's the year you are starting from.

I used to follow us away in the early 90's and even then we had a great following compared to everyone else.

We don't sell out every full away allocation for the whole season. We usually sell about 17 of the 19, but there is usually a long distance midweek away thrown in where we will struggle to fill the whole allocation. We had 2,200 at Newcastle last season for example.

That said, our away support numbers wise is clearly up there with the very best in the country and in my opinion, only Leeds have consistently taken the numbers away on a level we have despite no success. The likes of Newcastle and Sunderland take very good numbers for the vast majority of the time, but they have had periods where they have had poor numbers at a few aways, or requested the smaller allocation due to knowing they won't sell the full one.

West Ham's away support numbers wise has increased a lot since their Stadium move with a huge increase in season ticket holders and I imagine a lot of them need to buy tickets for the credit to make sure they don't lose out with the increase in people who qualify for an away ticket. But their numbers have been very good too recently despite having a bad time of it since their 7th place finish.

A couple of seasons back Southampton away was moved to Monday night late in the season. We sold the full away allocation and asked for more tickets, sold out them and another allocation after that.

Only away recently off the top of my head I can recall us not selling out was Martinez's last game up at Sunderland on a monday night when they battered us to stay up(Hello Sam!!):)

Wow  tell me more how twitter erupted at a bolton EFC game i'm intrigued,,,,:coffee:
I remember going to Bolton v Everton at the old Burnden Park ground in the 1977 League cup semi-final 2nd leg, when many thousands of blues travelled the short distance over there.
The tannoy before the game was strangely playing Hawaiian music to everyone’s amusement, whilst we were being pelted with rocks thrown into the away end from the railway embankment behind us.
Bob Latchford got our winner in a tough game, and we went on to play Villa in the famous long-running final at Wembley.

Went up without a ticket and spent 2hrs trying to avoid getting a hiding, We got in about 10mins from the end when they opened the gates

Apart from Semis and Finals.

Leeds away 2012...one and a half sides of Elland Road...

Advances....
Plymouth Argyle FA cup 4th round 1975
We took 9 or 10 special trains to Plymouth from Lime St
On the same day Liverpool took 6 or 7 special trains to Ipswich also from Lime St
It was absolute chaos at Lime st with different queues forming all over the place, then the Everton fans chanting “we’ve got more trains than you”
Happy days

We won 2-1. Heitinga scored the winner. Moyes' 500th game in charge.

We sold out the away end in abar a day and people started buying tickets in the home end. Tonnes got thrown out after we won it late.
Boss snowball fights after the game aswell
