I'm not sure if that's entirely true. Given the choice between a club that changes its manager every year and finishes in the bottom 6 every season or a team that finishes midtable or higher, not many would choose the former.A player picking between Everton or Sunderland would only care about who offered the most money.
But 85/86 was the year the RS did the double.Koeman was a star player, as a manager, hes not a star, Barks isnt even an International player and mention Lukaku to anybody not an Everton fan and I bet they say "going to Chelsea isnt he".
Dont get me wrong.
I worship Everton, for me its the best club in the world and that will never change, for me every year is 85/86, but thats not to say I cant look objectively at our standing in the modern game.
In some ways the growth of the CL has changed the landscape of football in the last 30 years,as many knew it would. The CL has become the top league every team and player aspires to. Not having an historical or actual presence in the competition makes the team appear as an appealing as signing for a division 2 side 40 years ago.
I think the champions league has already peaked tbh. Apparently the viewing figures are falling year on year. I don't even think that being in a top dutch/ Portuguese/ French team that gets dumped out early on brings players more exposure than being in a top half premier league team that isn't in the competition.
According to reports Kaboul is close to signing for Watford, think if this happens, you would think Kone will be going nowhere.
I can only speak for myself but I would sooner watch non league football than a CL match. I cannot stand the bloated, cash rich precession. Just one big advertisement for products I do not want these days.
CL matches are usually dull beyond belief aswell due to the away goals rule prohibiting home teams from going on the attack.

Petit, are you named after Phillipe(avatar?)? off topic just curious. I'm asking because avatar looks like erwin koeman too.
Can't see this happening.

Is that why Kante signed for Chelsea, mate it's club stature that players go for and wanting to play for a club that aspires to be the best
