That's just not the case.
It's a complex process that involves a lot of things being lined up simultaneously - unless you can rock up drop £45m on the table and walk out (as only a handful of clubs can) then you need to treat a deal like a house purchase; the vendor will only sell with a replacement lined up and the buyer has to have the cash or confirmation of another sale to balance the books. There's a big chain involved.

yes mate - apparently the story is that he should have been offered a new deal as per an agreement in place when he signed
