Current Affairs Labour and Anti Semitism.......

Meanwhile let’s get back to the subject in hand and Corbyn’s complete failure to manage this anti-semitism issue.....

The term ‘it’s in the blood’ does not mean what you have deliberately misinterpreted it as being......

(I shouldn't actually let you get away with that. Words, and thus phrases, have context - usually historical. One of the many things which held back social justice was the inert belief that people were poor because they're degenerates. I see the same reasoning being used to detail 'reasons' as to why the black population in America are so angry right now)

Are you seriously asking why South Wales/The Valleys historically support the Labour Party?

I think it's worth clarifying what I mean by normal though. I wouldn't want Joe Bloggs from the local checkout running a government department, but would expect that minister to have experience in that domain, and if they're the PM for them to have run at least a reasonably sized organisation in the past to show their leadership skills.

For me, that's a major black mark against Corbyn, as he's by and large a professional politician who has never had so much as a shadow cabinet post in his life, yet could be leading the country in one of the most important periods in recent history.

I get that people like his politics, but this isn't a student union debate here, if the recent past has shown us anything about our politicians is that competence is a whole lot more valuable than any specific ideology.

I disagree that modern business / organizational skill is that much of a requirement for running a Government though (or even a government department). If you look at past PMs, none of them have had that much (Macmillan is probably the closest, and his experience running his family firm was about 1% as significant on his political skill as his wartime service and dealing with his wife's infidelity was).

What is more important is that a political leader makes the right decision in the first place (and in the right way - ie: discussion, proper and fair assessment based on the evidence rather than dogmatism etc). That is what leads to good policy, good decisions and an improvement in the life of the nation as a whole. The last thing the country needs is yet another thrusting leader-type who drives through change, gives orders and expects them to be followed etc as we see so often in modern British business (and increasingly the public sector).

With regards to your point about competence, this is the criticism of Corbyn that I find most difficult to comprehend. By any measure - financial performance, membership numbers, vote share, performance in an election, performance in leadership elections, internal organization etc - Corbyn is clearly more competent than any Labour leader since Blair and (more importantly) any of his rivals.
