Current Affairs Labour and Anti Semitism.......

I’ve wrestled with posting my thoughts on this for a while , primarily because I’m conflicted . The hatchet campaign by much of the media is frankly stomach churning and clearly agenda based.

The bit I’m finding difficult is I’m not Jewish and I’m uncomfortable in a debate telling people who are Jewish and are feeling that anti-semitism is an issue that it isn’t . I couldn’t imagine attempting to tell tell a black person that they’d misunderstood an argument and it wasn’t racist and they were overreacting.

I’m not suggesting corbyn is anti-Semitic nor that I think he’s getting a fair crack from the media , I’m just saying how the position can make me feel a little uncomfortable . I’ve wanted to post this a couple of times so I’m hoping for some reassurance on this position to be honest .

Same here. Its why I have stayed out of it.

Not once has anyone within the leadership stated that there isn't elements of anti-Semitism within the party. We have ~600,000 members, and with that you'll always get a couple cranks. I will tell you now that I have personally sat in CLP meetings in the past where people have echo'ed the anti-Semitic conspiracy that the banking crisis was caused by Jews, a complaint was made and it took 1 year for that gentleman to be thrown out of the Labour Party.

This was in 2009.

The issue, for me, is the attempt to conflate anti-Semitism with anti-Zionism, and then use that confused equality to score political points against a democratically elected leader of a party.

It might be difficult for you to believe, but I have been called an 'arch-Blairite' numerous times the past 3 years due to me criticising the leadership. I am by no means of the Corbynite wing of the Labour Party - but I simply cannot stand idle as mistruth is used for political gain.

I think I’ve made my position pretty clear mate , I’ve tried to anyway , don’t confuse me with somebody that is looking to cricise you or the party. I do think the media has declared open season on corbyn and that many of his political anti Zionist policies are being criticised for being anti-Semitic . However my point still stands as a non Jewish person telling people that something isn’t anti-Semitic just makes me feel uncomfortable.

One of The very principles of identifying racism or a racist incident has been that someone perceived it to be .

I’m with you by the way , i abhor the manipulation of truth and the misuse of the media .

I have zero problem with people expressing their issues, this is how a healthy democracy works.

But I don't appreciate the fact that barefaced lies are being pushed as truth.

I see Len McCluskey has deemed it necessary to tell Jewish people that there's nothing to be offended by, anti-semitism doesn't exist in the party and they should shut up and be grateful Labour exists.

I'm sure that was a good idea on paper...

That is the thing, they don't help themselves with so many high profile people basically dictating that there is not an issue when there clearly is. If it is allowed to fester on and even grow then it may be a problem for them come election time whenever that may be.

The best part is that for the Corbynites, it won't be McCluskey at fault for shooting himself in the foot. Instead, it'll be Umunna's fault for giving him the gun in the first place.

Like it always is to them.

The first of those is pushing it. The second is absolutely risible.

If she didn't face disciplinary action before, she should straight up face expulsion now.

I wouldn't expel her - because it's clear now that's exactly what she wants. She wants to be 'martyred' for the cause to cause as much damage as possible.

Labour has a very real problem with anti-semitism and I don't believe many are doing it for purely political or spiteful reasons - however, with that one remark, Hodge has revealed her personal game here.

There's no defending her here. I'd suspend her indefinitely pending investigation, but keep her under the party umbrella for now.

Or give her more rope to hang herself with, either/or.
