Who do we have at RB… a centre back. Like it or not he’d be a fairly big upgrade on JOB and Patterson.

With Tarks injured, Jake can start the season at CB and make a claim to keep the position. I think unlikely but you have to give him a chance to play in his preferred position.

We need a lot of players not all are going to be exciting or have a large fee attached. If Moyes wants him I’ll trust his judgement.

Pros - he’s experienced at the highest level. Leader and vocal on the pitch.
Good tactically to play right back and inside centre half without the ball like Pep plays.
Can get up and down the right and put good crosses in. One year stop gap, just a loan. High profile player in the game / media.

Cons
Losing his pace. High wages. Personal life issues.

On balance, a good signing. not my first thought as an option but you can see why it works for us in the short term.

Uhh, I just dislike the guy.

His head's not right.

I don't recall him putting a great cross in for ages, he was clearly goal shy at the Euros where Spain repeatedly pulled him out of position for both winners.

He's not top drawer now.

Time's caught up with him. Italian league slower, would suit him. He was so for it ... Why's that all changed?

I do understand the rational comments about, 'he's a regular RB', 'JoB plays centre whilst tarks crocked'. Makes sense, yes.

What's his injury record like last season/s? Is he gonna be available at match level quickly?

Having said all this, I was cautious about Moyes return, and so far ok.

This is soooo short term and risky.
