Would be a terrible signing.
- Absolutely huge wages at present - about 200 grand a week.
- Miles past his best on a steep decline - City desperate to offload for free despite him being under contract, and Milan not interested in taking him back.
- Massive questions over his personality - surely we don't want to bring in players that could upset a close group of players?
- Would ultimately lead to O'Brien pushed back to the bench (unless the plan really is to sell Branthwaite) as he wouldn't join us without being guaranteed a start.
- Would be no kind of long-term solution - O'Brien impressed last season and the idea must surely be to improve on him, not take a 35-year-old whose only main attribute - his speed - has long since left him.
- What motivation does Kyle Walker have to leave Manchester City and join Everton? If he joins us it's due to him not wanting to relocate.
If this is the extent of our ambition this summer it's an awful sign.
People talking about his personality, yet the guys played for a decade at the most successful club we have seen in this country. He was seen as a captain within that squad, giving huge speeches before the champions league final.
If we were signing a player from Madrid or Barcelona with the same career wer would be excited.
He is coming in as a younger Ashley young, experienced professional that that has seen everything. Capable of playing centre back or right back. He is past his peak but he still has something to offer us.
On a free transfer there is nothing to worry about.
