Kitbag.

Wow...

Are you ready for this?....

Sit down if you're not sitting down already....

The Echo has only gone and written an article on Kitbag that doesn't toe the EFC line!!!!!!!

It's stops short of outright criticising the club, but it certainly points out all the flaws and leads you to a negative conclusion.

Never thought I'd say this, but for once - well done Dave Prentice!

He's all over the place and getting confused there with the Villa/Sours comparison to Everton, throwing in all of Everton's commercial figures to be sized up with just those two other club's kit deals.

All told he's taking a middle of the road approach when there is no middle ground: it's a rubbish deal with everything factored in around per annum payment's, profile and exposure, and service to supporters. He cant or wont say it though...just as he wont call Everton's commercial record in general stunted as the result of massive incompetence and a lack of vision.

Still, now he's got the ball rolling, we can expect questions surrounding new ownership to be put now...cant we?

Just for clarity - Everton's commercial income in the last accounts are as follows:

Sponsorship, advertising and merchandising £8.436 million
Catering £0.934 million
Other commercial activities £3.337 million

Total: £12.707 million

Tottenham Hotspurs' commercial income

Sponsorship & corporate hospitality £37.3 million
Merchandising revenues £11.00 million

Total Commercial revenues £56.228 million

The problem is that we are comparing apples and pears. Spurs includes corporate hospitality in their commercial revenues, Everton do not. Spurs merchandising revenues are revenues before the cost of supplying the goods and distribution costs. Everton's merchandising figure is the net receipt from Kitbag.

Therefore a comparison of Everton's performance v Spurs performance cannot be made on the basis that the Echo has reported. This may be a lack of understanding, or (as others would have you believe) a deliberate attempt to mislead.

ps - I forgot to mention Spurs carry £4.29 million worth of merchandising stock, something which Everton through their arrangement with Kitbag do not have to fund or account for.

Prentice needs to go to FFP school doesn't he Dave ?

Incidentally, on the basis that Everton receive £3 million a year from Kitbag, I would suggest that Kitbag sell something in the order of £10-12 million of Everton merchandise per annum.

This is on the assumption that approximately 40% of the revenue would go to suppliers, 25% to Everton, and Kitbag retain 35% before their distribution costs. I've no evidence to suggest this is the case, but experience elsewhere leads me to these figures.

But if you go into Sports Direct etc anywhere you can get a Chelsea shirt, RS, Utd, Siteh, Spurs, but not Everton. Kitbag are all very well mail order, but no good on a Saturday afternoon an a typical English high street.

I agree, and this is one of the biggest limitations of the current deal.

Here's pictorial evidence of how effective the Kitbag deal is working for us. From Singapore yesterday, outside the stadium:

You could buy Arsenal and Stoke replica shirts at the stadium, but you couldn't buy replica Everton shirts.

We look really small time - why wouldn't we get bids for our players.

It's really pathetic isn't it?

Even if you ignore the difference in marquee stalls, and argue that Arsenal would sell more stuff therefore need more space.... why on earth were we not selling replica shirts at the stadiums in Singapore when both Arsenal and more pertinently STOKE were?

That is truly an embarrassment and should be grounds for cancelling the Kitbag with immediate effect.

It's a disgraceful example of rampant mismanagement at our club.
