It's a great shout and my mate and I at the match discussed his best position and Sheedys name came up as a skilful player , without pace , who played wide and as a playmaker.

His reply was "yeah but Sheedy was a winner"

So far , on admittedly very little evidence , Dowell shows limited appetite and desire.

..oh, i’m not so sure there’s a great difference in attitude, Jazzy. Sheedy was a winner because he delivered when his team most needed it. I think young Dowell won’t lack for attitude when the going gets tough.

I loved Sheedy. Still do, he was special. Remember Steve McMahon lying on the floor, Sheedy kicked him and ran away in case McMahon seen him. He wasn’t a winner in the physical sense, he was very much part of that great team collective. Only time will tell, but Dowell didn’t shirk in a young England World Cup. I wouldn’t write him off on that score just yet.

More dimensions lol

He has the same as the rest of us!

I agree more with the parallels of Davies with a transcendent being than those comparing him with Pienaar though

Ha ha very good!

I think he has more to his game than Schneiderlin. The issue for him is how he puts it together and if he can. For all the faults of Schneiderlin, he knows his limits and tries to play to them (when he's bothered).

Dowell is a winner too, won basically everything on his way up the ranks

I think he's much more an Ozil type even if just in terms of temperament. I dont really see the De Bruyne comparison. KDB is much more combative and his game depends on a lot of energy as well as the skills he brings and I just cant see that in him.

My sense is that Dowell can play off the cuff very well indeed, and that other players need to be alive to that. I believe that whatever standard of football you place him in he'll adapt. I'd have no hesitation in putting him in a PL starting place. I do get what others are saying about him needing to expand his game though. I think so too. It'll be fascinating to see what Silva does with him. If we could get top 8 this season, develop a reliable method of defending and stick with it and find out along the way what we have with a player like Dowell, I would view that as a purposeful season.

Good post mate. I agree I’m really fascinated to see how Silva develops him. The managers approach to him has to be commended, good omens.

Think Davies and Dowell balance each other out quite well, but at the same time need to both improve in the same area.

Hope Marco et Al can help these two, I'd really like it for us to have two academy lads to be top top players.

I have no idea how good he'll end up being. My biggest problem with him is that his neck is wider than his head and that sort of freaks me out.
