What a strange player.

He clearly has good technique with a good 1st touch ( watch and learn Oumar) and can pick a pass but is so one footed it is ridiculous for a pro footballer. Far too lightweight to play centre midfield and doesn't seem to have any devil in him.

You would struggle to play him wide because he has no pace.

Could he play off a striker ? Maybe but not convinced.

I honestly don't know how you would accomodate him in a succesful team.

The same conundrum England had with Le Tissier
 
Perhaps he’ll get a start on Saturday? Gylfi out wide on a Wednesday was perhaps Silva trialling it out for Saturday with Dowell in the middle? Either way it looks like no Gueye so it’s Schneiderlin and Siggurdson plus two others to go with Tosun and Walcott if Silva stays consistent with selection.

Sigurdsson one of our best players so far this season so I'd be surprised to see him moved. More likely to see DCL out wide

Yeah that's why I thought of him. Similar attributes and deficiencies. Do the benefits outweigh the shortcomings? I'd say teams can afford a luxury player in the right games - but not more than one of them. Like when United had Berbatov. Players that go missing for most of the game and don't seem to be really putting shift in for their team, then just as fans stay bemoaning them they go do something genius. Not saying he's that level but that's the kind of player I think he could be. A useful player to have around.

So far , on admittedly very little evidence , Dowell shows limited appetite and desire.

I mean this is just nonsense. He's won trophies with England, was desperate to go on loan to prove himself and only committed himself to a new contract when Silva showed some belief in him. There were more than a few teams after him in the summer, he wants to play for Everton. So sorry i'm just not buying this limited appetite and desire rubbish.

Mate he weighs about 6 stone dripping wet, hes defo got a limited appetite.

He should be demanding the ball absolutely everywhere, looking constantly for it when we don’t have it & genuinely trying to dominate a game.

Unbelievable! If you haven't seen what you are talking about then basically i think you should shut up. If you'd seen it with your own eyes and that was your opinion then fair enough but as you haven't then what is the point of making those negative comments about a young player?!

Comparing him to Sheedy is a bit early to say the least, Sheedy is a Legend.

But, he was 23 when he came to us from Liverpool.

Dowell is only 20, we need to be patient with him as he definately has talent.
