Its pretty clear that at West Ham Moyes did well with Soucek and Coufal. Then spent big on Paqueta and Kudus with Areola being a sensible deal. Bowen of course fabulous.

6 players from 20+.

As much as people poo poo it the vast majority of West Ham fans had never seen a captain of their club lift a trophy in a stadium. Im coming up to my mid 50s. The last time i saw Everton win a trophy i was 24. All the plaudits about how Brighton shop in the right market is justified. But Brighton fans have never seen their club win an easter egg let alone silverware.
Who knows when West Ham might win another trophy. It took them 40 odd years. Bottom line is the players he bought won one. Do you think in 20 years their fans will be saying do you remember when we probably paid 8 or 9m over for kurt Zouma. Or do you remember that night Prague when Declan Rice lifted that silverware in front of us.
The games changed and its getting tougher esp with league placings taking priority over trophies
Grab nights of celebrating winning silverware.

Thewells legacy.

With him now leaving, uploading this video of him discussing future plans etc. just three weeks ago seems odd to say the least and a bit humiliating for Thelwell really.

From a BBC article on appointing Kinnear;

Thelwell worked under spending constraints

Since the start of the 2022-23 season, when Thelwell oversaw his first transfer window, Everton have implemented considerable cost-cutting measures to balance the books and are the only Premier League club during that period with a positive net spend of £80m.

But despite receiving two deductions totalling eight points after an appeal for breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) last season, the club have managed to survive in the top flight and are 15 points clear of the bottom three.

Thelwell sanctioned the signings of 22 players - with significant fees paid only for players aged 25 or under - and either sold or released 26 players, particularly those who were older and high-earning.

The largest transfer outlay was on Amadou Onana for £33m from Lille in 2022, and the Belgium midfielder went on to join Aston Villa in the summer for £50m.

Watts added: "Kevin has been integral in ensuring Premier League survival in this difficult period.

"By resolving Profit and Sustainability issues through significant player trading we believe we have an extraordinary squad that can be the foundation for future success."

I personally think he did an admirable job. Considering he is the only one in the league to generate a profit each year, and still kept the team up, and as recent results have shown us with an actually decent squad, Id say its been a success. I wouldnt be surprised if some other team on a tight budget snaps him up quickly.

My one complaint would be if he had a hand in the manager appointments, but I suspect he didnt. Otherwise, his greatest strength seemed to be in his player sales, some of the prices he fetched were very surprising and were what really kept us going.

We have literally been in permanent relegation battles since he has been here and the only reason we aren't now is because of the Manager. Not putting that all on his shoulders by the way as there is no doubt he has been working in a terrible situation and probably did ok considering what he was up against. Not having this did a boss job bollox though. He would already have his contract extended if he had. We live in a world now were we regularly get trolled by one of the poorest and most irritating strikers on the planet whom we actually paid money for.

Glad we are moving away from the Director of Football model and trying something different.

Having ditched the model that all successful clubs have been using for years we've gone with the Moyes is in charge plan for sustainability and long term planning. What could go wrong.

I’d imagine there will be some sort of committee. The key is getting someone in who can work with Moyes.

I’d imagine he is friends with Weir and that they would be on the same page. Not sure if that is still an option.
