2024/25 Kevin Thelwell

We arent giving Moyes full control.

It will be similar to the Roma model.

Well at the moment we’ve ditched the DOF model and are a looking at a head of recruitment who’ll report to Moyes. We’ve also talked to Moyes about moving upstairs after a few years to be in total charge of the football side. So I’d say the direction of travel is pretty clear.

Is one thing you csn say that he has put the club in a better position, did think his best area for is was selling players. Did do a good job looking at his time here, i did have questions on him about getting a new deal. But leaves prob with a better rep after hid time here

We have literally been in permanent relegation battles since he has been here and the only reason we aren't now is because of the Manager. Not putting that all on his shoulders by the way as there is no doubt he has been working in a terrible situation and probably did ok considering what he was up against. Not having this did a boss job bollox though. He would already have his contract extended if he had. We live in a world now were we regularly get trolled by one of the poorest and most irritating strikers on the planet whom we actually paid money for.

Glad we are moving away from the Director of Football model and trying something different.
I don't know to me I am very scared to entertain a different structure. I look at the current situation differently. Yes, Moyes has been the catalyst for the improvement but I think we are in a positive situation because the signings have not been solely geared to the manager the last two years. We are in the most optimistic position I think right now that we have been in a awhile because we have had a larger scope in our deals. Thats been evident with me believing Thelwell having more say than Dyche did and the benefits are clear.

I personally think the majority of the Moshiri tenure has more comparison to ignoring a DoF structure than not, and I think its a large part of why we have been in a mess for so long. I don't think Brands or Thelwell at the beginning were ever empowered over the managers, and its why we made very present focused deals that were extremely narrow in there rationale. Carlo, Rafael, Frank I think all got way too much say in our recruitment when they were at the helm. Post Frank I think Moshiri caved and allowed Thelwell more autonomy with the restraint of the finances and I think that shift is the reason this squad has a much longer roadmap than ones prior.

Moyes has demonstrated scouting knack but frankly its been a mixed bag in recent stints, nothing I would argue all that distinguishable or better from Kevin's recent windows. Factor that Moyes himself has said he isn't sure how long he will be manager and the present focused recruitment that helped make this mess might come back. We are just still very much in the woods with the finances, I worry how much of the nuance of that predicament can be understood in such a quick turnaround or with someone with divided focuses.

Call me worried.
