Awful disease, by the sounds of it they've caught it early, so hopefully he's got a good chance of fighting it.

Good luck Sheeds.

1985 FA Cup Semi Final. Villa Park. Minutes on the clock. Everton 1-0 down having been out muscled by Luton.

Free Kick outside the area. Hushed crowd.

Up steps Kevin Sheedy. Would he blast it or curl it?

Neither.

John Motson: "He drove one!"

As the ball entered the net and saved our treble hopes, Ratcliffe, alone in the centre circle, falls to his knees to thank the heavens for our salvation.

What a moment to cherish. Thank you Kevin for that at least. But for all the other moments of pure skill that you bought to that team of hard working players. Of them all, you were the silkiest.

So good luck in this fight. All true lovers of the game - no matter whom they support - will be behind you.

I was behind the goal, and if there was one man to have in that situation it was Sheeds. The best left footed player I've seen at Everton by a country mile, good luck Kevin.

my favourite player and he gave us some doh on haloween best wishes to him and his family
