I thought he was going to be a really good player when he broke into the Ireland team, unfortunately he seems to have went backwards this last couple of years. My impression was that when he first signed for Wolves it was like a stepping stone and he would get a move sooner or later. I think he signed a 5 year contract last season and in a sense has 'settled'. Maybe a move here would give his career a shot in the arm, because if he could get the hunger back he would do a great job holding up the ball running the channels and he is a good header of the ball.

He also needs to be playing first team football with the Euros around the corner as recently Shane Long has been preferred with Robbie Keane. All in all I'd take him for the right price, a few years ago he was valued around 10M.

I'd understand the reasoning behind Moyes bringing in Doyle, if we played a system with two strikers. Don't think Doyle is the type of player that will be of much use in our system. Don't think he's a bad player though.

?? Doyle/Keane remains Trap's preferred striking partnership....

I thought we should have gone for Shane Long for that type of money. Started well for WBA but seems to have gone off the boil of late.

Wouldn't surprise me if we did. I think Long has the attributes, better age profile too.
Lot of people wouldn't agree it but I think he'd be a better signing.

Yeah agree. We had a major discussion on this last summer. But since Long is still in the 1st year of his contract it would be less likely that we could get him.

Gibson now Doyle.. It's all getting a bit dour and workman-like isn't it? Sign of Moyes hunkering down and preparing for the worst.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me every transfer window for five years...

Still, he's surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. It's on.

I literally laughed out loud to that.

Plus, I'm still waiting on the mythical replacements Kenwright talked about after selling Arteta.

Watching this space.

I'm not denying that Traps preference is Doyle and Keane but he picked Long ahead of Doyle for the Slovakia game with Doyle on the bench. Trap regularly comes out saying he wants first team players. Anyway point being it would be a benefit to Doyle and us if he made the move with the Euros around the corner.
