Doyle is in the Republic of Ireland setup. They are not the best national team, and I know there are not a lot of them to choose from, but he's a decent player and on a budget would likely do a better job than our current strike force.

Were they in the public eye? No. Not one of them were

End result, 4 great players and about £25m of profit in a time where money is king and we haven't got any.

Why therefore should a proposed signing from another Premier League side reflect upon our mediocrity?

True, fair play. Just don't think Kevin Doyle would add the quality needed to be pushing for Europe again. It's just sad that due to our money situation he is considered as a "shock" signing. Would rather gamble on a younger player for less money eg Rhodes?

Doyle could turn out to be a quality signing, and is definitely a good squad player to have anyhow.
