I have to say I don't get why everyone has convinced themselves that he's god awful. He's not a world beater but he is a solid squad player and can continue to be so next year after we have (hopefully brought in better players).
For starters, he is fast (I am sick of our one-paced team) and CAN play anywhere across the forward positions (although, granted he seldom plays on the right). He is powerful and does score and assist (just not at phenomenal levels) but frankly that cannot be said about the vast majority of our current squad. If it does happen, I have greater concerns that through rebelling over a contract and getting injured and (so someone said) having COVID, that he is someway off proper match fitness- something King has admitted himself when being with Norway this season.
What does frustrate me, is that we should have brought him in in the summer. I feel like (and this is just my feeling, cannot be confirmed) that Brands is so opposed to January deals that he doesn't really countenance or prepare for them. I find it ridiculous that (with a global scouting network) that the only player we can potentially bring in is a player we all knew about and bring him in just before the deadline.
I know we need to shift deadwood and are right to do so, but we should have had either King or a loan deal lined up weeks ago and could then follow the other up dependent on outgoings toward the end of the window - giving us the two options (minimum) we need. It seems totally amateur to me.
However, and feel free to vault me, I would be quite happy about bringing in King IF we manage to do so. The way it has been handled is what annoys me. And as much as they may have been on the bench, players like Tosun are worse than useless. Genuinely one of the worst signings we have ever made.

No not every signing can be a superstar but signing players whose ceiling is bang average is an objectively bad strategy for creating a team that is better than bang average.
And we have James flipping Rodriguez we don't need Josh King for penalties FFS.

I can guarantee you that an injury-free and motivated King is a beast, and will create problems for any defense. He will give our attack a dynamic that we lack, and we will see an attacking player who manages to use his physique to run from the defenders. It is not a wise long-term investment, but we need players who can strengthen the squad now. There are not many of those players on the market now.

I have a question on work rate. Why are we so sure it is good? Half these posts are excusing his terrible current form because he's not arsed about playing for Bournemouth currently. Wouldn't that be a red flag?

maybe I should have worded it differently. How about an agreed fee to pay. How and when that’s paid is upto both parties to negotiate.
Word on the street is we wanted a loan deal, they did not. We need a striker and they have one who is up for a move.
