Fact that he's a) a keeper and b) never ever in the press makes it go underdiscussed how amazing it is that he's stuck with us all these years. Consistently been at least a top 5 keeper in the league for years now, while we've been one of the worst teams around in relegation scraps every year. Imagine if keeper was a weak spot for us, instead of having his quality? We would be a championship team right now, end of.

Plus he's a nutter. An absolute hero for me, I'm so glad he's here.

Edit: forgot why I started writing this post ha. Couldn't give two hoots if he could have done better for the goals at the weekend.

Yes mate.

Caught in no man’s land for the Villa goal

Should’ve come for the cross for Richarlison’s goal

At fault for MacAllister’s goal

At fault for Fernandes’ goal today

We’ve won games and he’s also been at fault for goals.
Don`t think he was at fault for the Villa goal, we lost the ball in side the Villa half cheaply and ended up having to chase towards our own goal. He comes out too early leaves himself open to a lob into an open goal, staying on his line just gives the Villa lad time to pick his spot. He came out to pressure the shot and the Villa lad kept his head and found his spot.
Just off the top of my head, Keane was the main one at fault for Richie’s goal, and tarks should be winning a header vs macallister every day of the week.
That Spurs goal was a complete team effort, the whole team went to sleep. Let a quick corner be taken, no pressure put on the cross, Tarks jumped for to head the cross and got nowhere near it, similar to the cross for MacAllister`s goal. Pickford has assumed that Tarks is heading the ball away and is caught out when it goes over his head, that was a mistake. As Ritchy as a goof CF is in a position to make the most of the ball if it comes all the way through to the back post, he`s not in that position but expecting it to be cleared. Pickford has a good view of that cross but should be getting in a position to either catch it if Tarks doesn`t head it clear, but he`s assumed Tarks will deal with it and is caught out when Tarks can`t get his head to it. Could even have given Tarks a shout to get out of the way and had an easy catch.

Every goal that`s conceeded can be looked at afterwards and a lot of the time you can pick out something that someone could have done better to prevent it, and that it usually a defender and the keeper.

The 3 best keepers in Everton’s history are:
1 - Southall
2 - West
3 - Pickford

Don’t agree? Tell me where your nearest Morrison’s car park is.
Martyn for west with Pickford at number 2. Been a fabulous keeper for us, does make the odd boob and is a nutcase but that's what makes him great. Still England's number 1 and has fought off some very good keepers..

Deranged lunatic cos he ran accross the goal and the ball was hit directly at him. My lads u12 team keeper can save a shot when its hit straight at him 2.
You must have been some player in your day, tell us, at what level did you play?
Also, still waiting for an answer, who are these goalkeepers we could have signed who would have done a better job?

Serious question, do you believe that? Do you honestly believe that, because if you do then you could apply similar logic to every single save in history. 'Keeper flings himself, like a lunatic, and gets lucky'.

A keepers main job is to get in the way if a ball. Look at Schmeichel, one of the masters of a one on one, did he get lucky or did he put himself in a position to make it as hard for the opposition player to score. The ball invariably just hit him, that could easily be said of the scenarios but he used every ounce of his body to make sure that happened.

The Chelsea double save was amazing and rightly won save of the year. I am glad he ran like a lunatic because if he just jogged he would not have got there.

Mate. West played over 400 games for us while we won multiple leagues and cups

Martyn was very good but won nothing and played about 80 times. It's not even close.

Martyn will always be the ‘what if’ keeper.
He was excellent when he joined us at the tail end of his career, but look at what he took over from - Richard Wright. Hardly set the bar high, did he?
If we’d have signed peak years Martyn in ‘95 instead mucking him around at Johnson’s hamper factory, pointing him down the M62 to Leeds, and ending up with Paul Gerrard, I’m sure things would have been different
