Bassong will cost em £12mill or so and will do a good job with toure. He'll jump at the chance. Told ya they don't rate lescott at 25mill

As I said, Lescott's a good player but he ain't irreplaceable (despite what others may say) and I would fully back Moyes to be able to find a replacement for a decent price who, if not quite at Lescott's stature, would be able to grow into it. Moyes has a pretty good record of buying lower league players and turning them into first class PL players.

But could he work his magic in just 14 days? Or less depending on when Lescott would leave. We'd be chopping off our own legs at the start of the season.

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes could turn his attention towards Newcastle United's Sebastien Bassong after having his latest bid for Joleon Lescott rejected.Everton are determined to hang on to Lescott and turned an £18million offer from City for the former Wolves defender down earlier in the week.

Hughes told the Manchester Evening News: "We've already walked away from situations where we feel our worth and the value we place on players has been exceeded.

"The value we place on players may be greater because the value we place on getting quality in means our valuations are higher than other clubs.

"It's about getting quality through the door and that's what we've been able to do."

Cameroon international Bassong has spoken already this summer of his desire to leave Tyneside following Newcastle's relegation to the Championship.

The 23-year-old has also been linked with Arsenal as the Gunners step up their search for a replacement for Kolo Toure, and Tottenham Hotspur.

PMSL at Hughes trying to argue he's being prudent. They've been spending money like a drunken sailor. WTF has happened to this feller? I used to think he was decent. He's turning into a right ****.

Just interested then to those people who do not want to sell Lescott what would amount of money would it take to let him go?

I really dont want him to go but for me £25m for a centre half after we paid £5m for him would represent too good an offer to turn down.

Agreed. I'd hate to see him go but for that amount of money and his deceison how could we stand in his way.

it's what they said when the kaka and eto deal fell through. They'll pay double than an average team... But they don't like the piss being taken. Eto wanted 2mill upfront payment for himself, kaka and his dad wanted a [Poor language removed] load up front personally.

Citeh do not rate lescott at 25mill, at a push for them he's worth 20mill no more. They thought cos were skint lescott and us would roll over at 15mill...then 18 mill. A last minute 22mill bid if they did bid would be their "were doing you a favour by giving you this much" bid...so we'd should say no to.

They think they can low ball the club. When they don't get their way they just say "it wasn't a commercially viable deal"

Just deny anything they throw at us because I'll be surprised if they bid 25mill. I'm sure they rate you're higher than lescott- a champions league player, top 4 player, won silverware, more experienced defender. 25mill on lescott is too much for them.

I hope you're right. Personally I dont see how a club and manager spending hundreds of millions would de-rail their plans for the sake of a couple million more quid. And I still have the nagging doubt about the Jo deal they agreed to. I'll be utterly amazed if he doesn't end up at City. I'll use yesterday's word again: pantomime. Oh no he isn't; oh yes he is.

Its about the message aswell, if we cave in and sell him were in the realms of being a selling club. If we stays then the other have the message, theyre our players so do one.

Im not daft enough to think that everyone doesnt have a price but we will have just signifigantly weakened ourselves while strengthening a rival.

Well in Moyes/Kenwright for having some balls on this.

Re: Hughes, he's turning into a right smarmy bell, hope they get smashed all over the show this year.

then why submit 2 shitty bids if they wanted him so bad? Last year fulham dived straight in with something like 15mill for andy Johnson, something we know he wasn't worth. Citeh have all the money in the world but put in 2 bids we'd reject clearly wanting more...but citeh seem a bit coy about it. 25mill makes him the 3rd most expensive player at citeh...and they know they can get someone cheaper and in some cases better.

Jo has nothing to do with it. Jo was bought under shinawatra I think, is probably 5 choice striker. Jo would be at any other team this season, was rumoured fulham were interested, not citeh, we just asked. If it was something as a sweetner they wouldve given us him perminately. Jo wanted to come back, citeh don't need him, we asked, got hm back.

Agreed, mate. Citeh need to watch it to a degree otherwise they're held to ransom on every Tom, Dick and Harry that they want to sign. It seems to me that the policy of paying around the double mark at a push is actually prudent. The owners know that given a couple of years of this type of spending, and perhaps a new manager, Citeh will be up there in the top 4. After that, the club should be able to push on and begin to spend wisely. At the moment, the club just has to get enough decent people in to begin the move to where the club will no doubt end up.

So yeah, I doubt they will go to absurd degrees to get Lescott. maybe the next bid of £22m will be the highest. At the end of the day, i don't see it going past £25m.

I am really getting pissed off with City and their drip, drip offers. As was said they thought they would get him cheap because we are short of readies.

Everton should report City to the FA. This is as I said before is akin to tapping the player up. We have said he is not for sale, City should respect that and buggar off, stop unsettling the player, the team, and the fans.

what happened to the old fashioned here is our only offer? take it or leave it. you have 2 of your earth hours to decide..

none of this waiting 4 days to raise the bid a tenner.
