Both Arsenal and Man City have been linked with the Everton defender Joleon Lescott this weekend, but the 26 year-old is adamant that he will be staying at Goodison Park and helping his team to break into the top four in the near future.

“It flatters me but I’m focused on my job here and I don’t need distractions,” Lescott said yesterday.

“I want to be part of Everton’s future.

“I’m sure he manager will look to bring in more this summer. He’s done well in recent years.

“This year it was Marouane Fellaini, who’s been outstanding. You can see where the club is going.

“Next season we will have all our injured players back. Phil Jagielka, Mikel Arteta and Yakubu will be like three new signings.

“It’s important to keep everyone together because we’re really not that far behind the top four.”

He hasn't mentioned that he wouldn't leave Everton. Most players aren't loyal, they aren't arsed, get used to it.

Its clearly not defo, but for me thats all he needs to say. If things go above his head and we accept an offer, well then clearly things will change. Its not 100%, but the club and the player are making the right noises. Its something.

Its boring that a lot of members acts like a cross between Silas Marner and Gollum when it comes to money. Spurs, Newcastle, Sunderland, Pompey, Villa and I believe even fulham spent more money than us and where did they all come??!

money doesnt guaruntee success but a quality international centre back can definitely aide it.

You make it sound like people want to give him away. That's not the case. Those that think selling might be worth considering, do so because they think it might be the case that the team could be improved with the money.

I'd hate it if he went but if it got us 18-10 mill I'd sign without having too much of a think. With that kind of money you can buy one non-english CB as good as lescott (granted he would be unproven in the EPL) and another winger/right back.

personally if he left i'd love to see kompany (said it before in some other thread about half an hour ago), he came cheap to man city, is a brilliant central defender, know at least one of the team in fellaini and will be replaced at city soon anyway. suppose you'd pay 15 mill on someone of his caliber, we'd have another 5 mill to spend whichever way we like, so in the end we'd have traded a great CB for another great-to-be CB (give him another season) and 5m quid, i reckon that's not a bad deal

solution! thomas vermaelen arsenal are signing him now though so i'm a bit too late but let's say he isnt moving there: he's 23, captain at ajax, mainly CB but plays LB pretty much as good. been capped 20 times, and is now on his way to becoming an arse so id be happy if we could stop that from happening
so lescott out fr 18 mil, vermaelen is priced at 12 give or take and then wed have even more

i might be a bit partial to belgian players though, ill try not to let it show as much from now on :lock:

Please stop questioning other people's ambition because they have a different opinion to you. Some people believe that the best way to crack the big 4 is to sell a player for far more than he's worth to improve the squad. Other people believe the best way is to keep the current squad that has served us well, even if that means minimal additions. Both ideas have merit, and I think for most people would swith between the 2 based on how much City bid. For me, £15m or even £18m isn't quite enough.

But don't question other fans ambition.
