5 years ago I'd have agreed.

He's Fulhams best by a country mile, they'd want a sh1tload of cash for him and he is not comparable to Lescott, he's a great player but not even close to Lescott, very few are.

We need to get this selling mentality out of our minds fgs, it's ridiculous, I expect my mates that all support the sky 4 to say 'lolz £20m that's more than your stadiums worth, you should well sell, innit' but I don't expect our fans telling us to sell one of our few absolute top class players

I am an admirer of Lescott, but you are completely over rating him.

If an offer came in of £20 for him, id sell straight away.

Hangeland is not far off Lesott at all. He is an absolute rock, and I think he would be just as stable at the back as Lescott.

I'm not overrating Lescott at all, if anything you're underrating him. Hangeland has had one good season, how many times do you see a player have a great season and then fade away? Lescott has been at the top of his game for 3 seasons, and it's no coincidence that he's rated up there with the likes of Ferdinand, Terry and Vidic by many

Jags comes to mind.

Give Hangeland next season, heel be one of the best. Trust me.

If he's that good why are City after Lescott instead of Hangeland who, whilst not cheap, would be less than Lescott?

Im not saying Lescott isn't better. But if we sold Lescott, bought Hangeland and Moutinho with the money, id be happy.

In fact, id be truly delighted.

One thing you can point at in Moyes' tenure as Everton manager is that he rarely does a lot of chopping and changing with the squad in terms of buying and selling.

He's been very deliberate since he's been here.

While I probably wouldn't mind 20-25M for Lescott (upfront...no installments), and then buy a Moutinho along with another CB, that sort of business doesn't jive with Moyes' track record in the transfer market.

You could say that he sold AJ and Faddy to buy Fellaini but I seriously doubt that anyone on here would say that those two were as valuable to the club as Lescott.

In short, I just don't see Moyes making a change like that. Not when he's got the club pretty much where he wants it in terms of personnel.

It all depends on how much we got for Lescott.

And im not sure about Hangeland, Yobo would almost certainly play, and i dont think he would want to sign for Everton just to be benched!

Yes, let's get a 32 year old that doesn't even come close to Lescotts ability

We're likely to have around £15m to spend, enough for Moutinho if we really wanted him. I just don't see the point in weakening one position severely to strengthen another position, if we're gonna make progress we need to keep our best players and continue strengthening, even if that means we only get 1-2 top players a season

This is where I don't understand your argument.

We have THREE top class centre halves, and the best young centre half in the country.

If we can cash in anywhere, it's at CB.

Severely? It would be Yobo in for Lescott, which is slightly a step down, but I wouldn't say severe.

Look at it this way - at the moment we don't have a ball winner in midfield (Neville is ok defensively, but he doesn't win the ball high up the pitch in the way that even Carsley did, but rather is just organised and well drilled) - that really hurt us when Chelsea were passing in front of us for 30 minutes. The step potential step up is therefore from nothing to a high class player, if we can find one.

Think of it the other way around. Imagine we only had 2 class centre backs, but we had a £15m ball winner in midfield. What would you say if we sold our only ball winner to strengthen a position where we had 2 decent players anyway? Presumably, you wouldn't be happy.

I think you have to be open minded about these things - you can't take the attitude that we should never sell our best players. Fact is, we have very little cash. It would be nice if this summer we sold nobody and we bought a ball winner, a striker and a winger with pace for £15m each, but that can't happen.

Obviously not saying we should sell Lescott on the cheap (or even for his "fair" value - this is about someone like City overpaying for him, allowing us to stengthen significantly in other areas), but every player has a number.

What I don't understand is why you want to sell a player even though we have another that can take his place? Yes, Yobo is almost as good as Lescott. But if Yobo or Jags gets injured what then? Then our strong defensive lineup is significantly weakened. We need good backup players for each position if we want to go forth. Not to sell one as soon as we have gotten some cover for a position.

We NEED to have cover for the different positions. Squadplayers that can go in without weakening the team too much. If we had 3 very good players that only can play as RM then I could understand your reasoning since we only need 2 (one on the pitch and one as backup).

I thought we just bought a german wonderkid or something? 20m means a lot to us. 25m would be scam of the decade. Sell if we need. I can't quite decide on this. My view of this will very much be decided by who we brought in.

yobo just signed a 5 year deal after sitting on the bench all season. i wonder if he knows anything about an everton decision to let lescott go?

Wasn't Yobo injured in the start of the season and therefore somewhat behind when Lescott and Jags started playing well together? I think Yobo just has been told that he will play games even if Lescott and Jags are fit since we, hopefully, will play more games this season compared to last.
