i dunno. moyes always uses the theory, if you play well you keep the shirt. he is going to play up until christmas anyway with jagielkas injury.

but you are right, if we have a good run in the uefa then we will need 3 center backs to cover the games.

Id say we'd even need four on all our fronts next season. Three and a junior, Rodwell maybe?

How are we gonna progress if we sell a great defender who can score goals?

we are not Real, Citeh, or Chelsea

This is not a business, this is football

if we can get £20 million for Lescott then we need to take it to progress. The players all know the situation at the club and would prefer 2 or 3 additional players that would enhance the team/squad than one who would happily sign for a no mark rich club. I know for a fact that we have no money...straight from one of the top mangaement team at the club.....someone that used to be in rugby league:confused2:. So selling at top whack to get money to reinvest where we need it is good business and good football sense.

It doesnt matter if its Everton , Manchester United or even Real Madrid if a player wants to leave for whatever reason then I am afraid it then becomes the business it really is . Its not about losing one of our better players and thus weakening the team . Its about reversing a negative into a positive by getting as much money as possible in order to make us an even stronger team by buying another EVEN better quality player in his place .

Do you think Manchester United are shitting it at losing Ronaldo ? I dont think they are . 1 - Because they have the mentality that states no one is bigger than the club itself and 2 - because of what would become available to them with all that money . We must think and act in the same manner .

Stop sweating on him leaving he NOT ireplacable .

It's one thing if a player wants to leave, and another if the club sells a player that wants to stay just to get money.

If a player wants to leave then I'm all for it... good riddance and bring us the money. But if our top players want to stay, then why sell them just to get cash? With Jags gone for the start of next season, I just can't see how selling Lescott won't weaken our defensive line and be a good idea at this stage.

Yes, we would make a huge profit if we sell him for £20M, but that isn't the way to behave if we want to be a top club. If we buy cheap and sell to other clubs in the league we will never reach the top. We'd go back to being a selling club.

Something to add to the mix. Assuming Valente goes then Lescott, as well as being our first choice centre back, is also our cover for Baines. So if we were to sell him then we may need both a replacement centre back and cover at left back for Baines.

Just because you sell to a club with millions doesnt mean your selling out a player who by all accounts wouldnt mind going to City . Lets face it City will have to pay oever the odds for just about any player they want and if you ask me we should take full advantage , just look at Villa and tell me they will not go on to take full advantage of that cash fall .

You need to get this " Selling club mentality " out your head . It really isnt like that . This happens in football its par for the course . Little clubs plough the money into the club to keep it breathing . Luckily we are now clear of that . We would use the money to capture that elusive attacking midfielder and you would at the end of all this thank Moyes for doing so .

It'll be interesting how it impacts the squad psychologically. Of the post 2003 team I don't think we've sold a first team regular against our will, and certainly not to a team that could be viewed as a rival to us. Both McFadden and AJ went to so called lesser teams. I'm just thinking how Lescott going to City would be viewed by the other players in the squad. Until now, if a player leaves they're pretty much taking a step down from Everton. I'm not sure this would fall into that category. For a squad with such unity it may turn heads, trigger some thoughts amongst other players that we may not be a club going places. The team spirit at the moment is arguably the best in the country, and to maintain that we have to maintain the notion that we're a club that's progressing.

Of course they will, the difference being that Barry wanted to leave, was on the brink of doing it last season, and rumors had it in the January window as well.

When Lescott comes out and says he wants to leave, that will place us at the same spot as Villa.

When you have as many good players as we have such as Arteta Jags , Cahill , Pienaar and Yakubu its only right that other clubs on the same or a higher level are going to to try to prise them away from you . If them offering to do this in a way that only benefits us in the long run then it would silly not atleast give it some long hard thought and I am sure Moyes would let the rest of the squad know exactly how he was going to use the money to make us even BETTER than we where before Lescott went .

Thats what I mean about the Club being bigger than anyone player . Someone leaving shouldnt make any of the players turn s*ithouse . If they do then they were never here for the right reasons anyway . This squad of players is better than that it would only make them more determined and even more so if it meant that the man sitting in Lescotts space in the dressing room was the Moutinho

Of course the club is bigger than one player. We showed that when Rooney left, and when Jeffers thought he could come back and have his will.

I just don't agree that it is a good idea to sell Lescott at this stage, even if the club is in a better position than a few years ago. We still need him since he is one of 3 CD's and one of 2 LB's we can play without lowering the threat and stability on the pitch. If we sell him and get a midfielder instead I won't be enthusiastic. If we sell him we need to find another, just as good, player that can play both LB and CD otherwise it's not worth it in my eyes. If the german 18-year old we signed comes through this coming season, then we would be in another position next summer with 4 good CD's. Then it might be a better idea to sell one of them to fund the transfer off a player for another part of the pitch.

We can't just think forward, that was what Newcastle did this season and they got punished for it. They had a good team on paper, but their defensive line was weak and that is what we would face with a few injuries there or some suspensions. We need to start with the back and have a defensive lineup that will stay strong enough to challenge the top teams even if we have an injury or two.

Okay, ive got an idea.

£20m + Michael Ball for Lescott. I would take that, and know we can all be happy.

Then sign Hangeland and Moutinho with the money.

Michael Ball is still a decent player, and would push more for a place in the team than Valente!

Michael Ball is GASH and so is that Hangeland.

Im sorry but I cant believe people are saying sell him for £20m, if we did that the bank would be all over the money asking us to pay off some of our loans/overdraft.

Moyes would see less than half. Or Bill would come out and say Moyes will have all the money to spend, then spend just £20m, ignoring the fact that we should have more.

Lescott has said he wants to stay, hes 1 of our better players, why are we even discussing this? Some people just want him sold so we can point and say, we paid £5m and we sold him for £xxm.

His value to the squad is far more than any price City would pay us.

Close the thread, hes staying. Thats final.
