He is an important part of a team that our manager is trying to build. Put simply, if we play a weaker player in any position...the team becomes weaker. Stones may not be vital right now...but can you imagine Everton being as strong in the 80's without Ratcliffe? When he started out he wasn't 'vital' either

True..and if Bobby has a better defender lined up who's much cheaper than Stones then I'll be more than happy...but I would imagine the clubs linked with Stones may have twigged onto this guy too

Potentially having one of the best players in the world for their position is better than having 3 bang average squad players, which is what you will end up with

said it before, i think martinez is a bit too good in the transfer market to spend that amount of money on just markovic and lallana. spurs bought a lot of highly rated players, one of them being a fantastic keeper, but they just bought loads of attacking midfielders for the sake of it. There's no reason we can't sell stones, buy a much better defender, a great keeper and a good backup striker with the money. Replacing lukaku is a much tougher proposition in my opinion.

Can't argue with that. Its down to Bobby to find that player. When we signed Mountfields replacement from Norwich, his CD partner at the time(Bruce) was considered the best and Manure bought him. HK played a blinder and got Dave Watson.
It will be down to Roberto to play his blinder.

I wish Stones would stop drawing the man on before making his pass. Now and again yes, but virtually every pass? It just looks like he's doing it to add style to what he does. But often, unless Barry is around to give him the out ball, it usually ends up with him passing the ball on to someone who's by then being put under even greater pressure than himself by another presser.

Pique rates him highly from what I read, and it'll be better for his career than moving to a uncultured premiership club.

Maybe but stones wants to go, if clubs are willing to pay 50 million then snap their hands off . we are not in a position to buy ready made players at their peak so if we can buy another stones and lukaku then go for it.
