John Stones transfer saga

Why is £40mil a 'stupid' offer?

I think, unless Chelsea go really stupid and offer us 40 million or so, that Stones will remain an Everton player.
In an ideal world, he'd still be around to partner with Galloway, or maybe Browning for the next three or four years.

If we can keep Stones long enough to bring Galloway through, then we'll be in a much stronger position.

Even if the press's 'plucked out of the air' next bid of £32m is right, then if Barnsley do have a 15-20% sell on clause we're automatically down to £25-26 mil to reinvest. Seems hardly worth accepting that as we could fritter that away easily on a couple more Kone's.

Even the mega valuation of £50m would come down to £40m and I really would want us to have at least close to that to compensating losing such a talent.

Better still, keep telling them to do one and keep the lad!

I think the main reason he'll stay is that Bill and the board must surely realise that he could easily be worth £60mil come this time next year.
