Joel Robles

With respect pal, thats bollocks. You cant have it both ways, the defence are resposible for their own individual actions just like the keeper is resposible for his. Thats been my problem with the Howard out side. I can see he has made many major mistakes this season (prob closer to two years now), but it seams to me that your just closing your eyes to the fact that the defenders have also made quite a few mistakes that Howard has nothing to do with (but never the less got the blame for!). I dont want to side track this and take away from the fact that Joel did well im just saying it would be nice to see colective resposibilty on the pitch.
No ones excusing the defenders marely pointing out how much better we look with Joel behind them, pretty much everyone can see it apart from the fanboys.

The defence and Gk should be at one, and 2 years of evidence proves starjumps to be the main problem

When your keeper doesn't claim anything and there isn't a degree of trust it makes it harder for the CBs. That's pretty obvious.

Im no fanboy (far to long in the tooth for all that nonsense) and as i've alredy said over and over Joel should be given his chance and start at least the next few match's. ;)

Well, no, there's obviously been a shift in focus since the Stoke match. The defenders (Funes Mori's minor first half jitters aside) looked really composed for most of the match against Tottenham, too. I think Martinez has been emphasizing our defensive shape.

Not trying to take anything away from Joel's performance yesterday, but I think credit has to go to Martinez for recognizing and trying to correct some of our other defensive issues, too. We'll see how long it lasts.

Maybe so but when your defenders refuse to simply stand their ground or put a takle in on incoming strikers and simply back off and back off that makes in harder for the keeper. No exuses for Howard he's been poor for ages now and Joel made a good case for himself last night but it would be nice if we could have a more balanced debate over our keepers.

I agree that it's not all Howard and no one is blameless, but he's clearly the weakest element of our defence and Robles has looked better every time. If we had a defender stinking the place out and being arrogant whilst a promising deputee was rotting on the bench, there'd be similar aggro.

robles threw the ball out to Coleman in the second half, it was a terrible ball and put Coleman under pressure and I think we got a throw in out of it. Coleman turned to Robles and give him a mouthful and you could see he wasn't happy, what made me laugh was Robles turned to Coleman and shrugged his shoulders as if to say do better next time not my fault.

Sometimes you need GK who is arrogant and even over confident to the point nothing is his fault
Special breed GK and I the Robles has some of them qualitys to go on to be a good GK
Vital point there in the case when Howard rolls a ball out after taking ten minutes to polish the ball down the middle of the goal how often {NEVER } do you see one of ouit defenders give him a rollicking = NEVER to scared of RM blue eyed OAP!

Counted two saves Howard could not have made today, and he would not have saved the goal = 3-2 City if Tim was attempting to goal keep

You have no idea what he would of saved. He's saved loads of shots similar to their goal.

first one on here isn't that much different, he's got better positioning than Robles, so whereas he wouldn't of made that amazing Aguerro save that Robles did, doesn't mean he wouldn't of saved the shot but would of been in a better position so it would of seemed far simpler.

He's really not as bad as people make out, but his lack of ability to command the penalty area makes it time for him to go. Like I say Robles>Howard on the back of that performance as Robles played very well and the defence seemed to feel more confident.
But people on here are very blinkered as to Howard imo.

Actually just watched that out of pure curiosity, and no, there isn't a single save in that entire 4 and half minute video that stands out as out of the ordinary, or one that is equal to the save Robles made from De Bruyne last night

I actually admire doug's backs against the wall defence against overwhelming evidence and common sense by now. Surely he must be family
a plea to the mods - "Come Back Doug" this clip from the Shane ending - which one is Doug or which one is Groucho?lol
My late fathers favorite film I cry everytime I watch this movie My older brother Alan was named after Alan Ladd! - also Joey!

Quite correct.

I'm pleased Robles did well.
So was I - I was dreading bad errors with nerves - mlyons and DitheringDoug on here giving me stick post after post etc , but I kept my faith like my avatar the stick he got replacing the Golden Vision in the ground of many fans and as a ten year old I told them straight with my big brother give him a chance!
That's my argument he needs game time if he works out poor then we know for sure!
