He was brought in as a number two - not his fault but he wasn't announced as a world class stopper - despite his performance in the FA Cup Final. For me, we were underwhelmed when he arrived, no big fanfare and real expectation given that Howard was publicly told he was number 1.
Early performances weren't great - poor positioning and communication didn't give much confidence - but when he stepped in for the first team late in Martinez's tenure he was on the wrong side of the decision to drop him. Possibly unlucky to lose out to Stek at start of the year - not much between them for me though - but what the past few weeks has shown is his growing confidence. Some great saves in recent weeks - and his pitch length sprint to join in with Lookman Sunday - made me think he may have a future. Pleased Ron kept him in today and was rewarded with a great performance - up to Robles now to claim it. He's getting his chance, hope he takes it.
