Joel Robles

Misuse of the word need.

When Howard was playing, we needed a new number one. Before Moshiri, we needed new investment. Currently we need a new manager.

Joel isn't even close to being the reason why things have gone wrong this season. We do not need better. Better would be good, it always will be good, because it's better. But I say give Joel the chance to get better like he has done throughout his Everton career. He's still young for a keeper.

It's personal opinion. I think he's ok as a second choice keeper but if we are to move forward I want a bigger and proven name.

I've always thought there should only be one 'senior' goalkeeper mate and a lot of snides in the background secretly waiting to take his place.

Think of it like a one-party state.

Yes I get what you mean.

What I mean is if there are resources available then two senior keepers will always be a plus. They wanna keep the place so they will push each other.

I'm not quite sure I understand the shouts of 'he's not bad so why don't we just see if he's any good with a run in the team and then get rid if he's not'. Well, because if he's not, then we'll have just wasted a year won't we? So would it not make sense to bring in someone who we know is better in the first place?

Don't get me wrong, if Martinez (or his replacement) see Joel as a potentially top class keeper then fine, keep him. They know better than me obviously. But keeper is a very important position, and my personal opinion is that there at least 8 keepers in the league who are clearly better than him, and only a couple who he is definitely better than. We weren't happy when Osman and Hibbert were playing and they were the 9th/10th/11th best players in their position, so is there a reason why we'll accept it from a keeper?

I think he's good from what I've seen. Has some top attributes and some weaker ones. He's young so can work on them, as he has done already (eg his handling has improved massively since signing).

Also I don't think we've seen enough of him to judge him with any degree of finality. I'd like to see more of the lad first.

I'm not against us going after the very best players but I'm also realistic. Having Moshiri doesn't suddenly mean we can expect world class players in every position.

When you boot a ball up as a goalie its aimed in a general direction not to a players feet.

What are you expecting? Lazer guided hoofs up the field to players feet.

A lot of those "misplaced" balls will be due to the likes of Lukaku not being able to win a header ever.

Judging a goalkeeper on his passing is such a simplistic and bizarre thing to do.

how many goals has he scored??? the waste of space.

We have Robles already remember.

You got me wrong there.

Yes Robles is there but Howard will be going so I want a big name signing 《for a keeper 》this summer.

If there is a decent experienced keeper on a free and we have enough resources then sign him up as 3rd keeper.

2 senior (new guy and Robles)the very least.

For me a new proper, Robles and a kid if needed. That's all.

Pretty much the same then.

I rather an experienced one as third choice. Well if we have enough resources. If not two senior keepers are absolutely fine.

Sort of.

I'm not as convinced by Robles as @RFUS is unfortunately but he'll do as back up. As long as we pick the true number 1 well this summer I can't see Robles pushing him much.

Yeah i agree with what you were saying earlier, in that I don't think we need a new keeper as such. I certainly wouldn't be rushing to replace Joel by spending a load of money on Begovic or Ospina for example.

We obviously aren't going to sign anyone who's world class, but as i said, i've not seen anything to suggest that Joel will ever be better than a mid ranking premier league keeper. I'd like us to be aiming a bit higher than that. He's 26 next month i think, and I believe the days of keepers not peaking til their early 30s are gone now. Some of those I think are better than him (De Gea, Courtois, Butland) are younger than he is, and Lloris, Hart etc are only a couple of years older and were much better than him at the same age.
